Given how connected our world is, the "rely on natural immunity" thing has not been a viable solution for some time now.

I get the point, but has continued to work fine for me. And quite a number of others I know of. Each to their own here

Problem remains. Being symptomatic does not guarantee anything.

Most infected persons will not present as symptomatic whilst at the same time being perfectly capable of infecting others.

Sure if they didn't know but these parents DID know and chose not to tell anyone who visited.

Excuse my ignorance because I don't have kids, I thought some vaccines were basically compulsory when you have a child? I could also be wrong

In SA these days compulsory mean voluntary

As far as I'm aware you can't be forced to get any vaccination and that isn't something that's changed "these days". They're highly encouraged and offered for free though. If someone purposefully stops their kid getting those vaccines they're idiots playing Russian roulette with their kids' health.

There are however consequences for not being vaccinated. One of them is potential inability to access public schools that tend to require up to date vaccinations.

It should be in a similar vein as intentional HIV infection, ie: the person had knowledge and chose to not disclose that to potential people impacted by. SA already has similar laws, look at FICA, you can be held liable if you know or even SUSPECT a crime and did not report it.

Look I wouldn't take it that far but the problem is not that the person exercised their belief of non vaccinations but that they chose to foster and allow it outside of themselves without what they know is a communicable disease, vaccination or not.

The whole problem with the vax/anti-vax arguments is that unfortunately it does not impact just the individual. Yes, covid etc. was rushed and what not, I had members impacted severely as well as a death so its a two sided coin.

Personally I think people can have freedom to chose but then along with that choice comes responsibilitie and consequences of actions.

They then told us that their sick child actually had mumps and didn't believe in vaccines but "Oh no, you could have never got it from him".

Time to break that friendship.
What else don't they believe in that puts your family in danger.
