The roadhouse that went from serving South Africa’s first hamburgers to being demolished

What a great spot?! KES boys and Highlands boys would meet there when the boys wanted a punch up and a milkshake after...

It was also the meeting spot for Sunday night drag races towards the bottom of Louis Botha and Alexandra township. A few dragsters lost their lives along that strip though...

That still goes on late at night, haven't seen a cop on Louis Botha for years. But yes, dangerous...

On the topic of roadhouses - have vivid memories of Sunday night drags at Pure & Cool Roadhouse, some affectionaltly refferring to it as 'Puke & Choke'.

Another childhood memory of Casbah Roadhouse, not sure if it's now Johnny Guitar - been a few years!
 
Cape Malay. There has only ever been one roadhouse: Wembley in Athlone :)

Toasted sandwiches from casbah were massive.

CPT from my understanding has Zero roadhouses now, or maybe I haven't been down here enough to find any.

Isn't BurgerFair in Bellville a roadhouse? Food tray clipped to your car door and you eat in your car?

It has the added benefit of having loads of prostitutes around to help you work your food down - either directly by nefarious deeds or indirectly by not paying for those deeds and being chased up and down Voortrekker road by an angry Nigerian.

maybe the East rand Vallie's need to go past it to see if its the Cape town people can do a proper roadhouse.
as I do miss my East rand roadhouse quite a bit sometimes.
 
We used to go to the Dolls House after a night of jolling in Hillbrow or eat the best chicken on the pavement at Fontana bakery.
My older boet was also a waiter at the road house.
Some of you toppies might also remember Club 505.
I just given my age away.:laugh:

It depends on how well they make a double cheese and bacon burger.

Fireplace in Boksburg and Primrose are still going strong. Much better food than McDonald's and KFC.

Mmmm... Roast chicken and rolls from the Fontana bakery in Hillbrow after midnight. I remember that, too! 😋
