The most stolen car part in South Africa

wasn't there a spate of people stealing Polo headlights

I remember back in the day people would steal plane jane Toyota Corolla hubcaps, no rims or anything fancy
literally the simple pressed steel wheels and the plastic bit in the middle

made no sense to me.

Maybe there is a need for these on the black market since one headlight unit goes for around 20K or more.
 
I had the wheels stolen off of my citi golf... INSIDE my garage.

They tried to dief the car but it had the coded key and they couldn't get it started... so AFTER breaking the locks, ignition and covers they decided to take what they could.
- Radio
- Speakers (you know I was rocking dem 6x9's and a 12 in the boot - MANDATORY with a citi golf ok?!)
- Battery
- All four wheels (the citi golf "flower mags") AND the spare wheel.

Yep. The garage is not attached to the house and the side they came in from was the furthest from the house. The forced the window open (our house is old and it didn't latch properly), climbed in with one of those folding extension ladders (that I think they nicked from a neighbour).

I was gainfully employed at that stage and working from home... my wife opened the garage for something in the afternoon while I was outside with her.. and she was like "the car is standing skew". As I rounded the corner I saw that they had fetched paving stones from the driveway and put them under the car.
 
I still remember really well when they stole my Dad's Corolla wheels,
from the drivers side it was okay, but from the passenger side they put the car on Bricks and took the plane jane simple steel wheels from that side.

I think I had just watched back to the future (was around 10) and I asked my dad, how can the car drive without wheels?, did you have a hover conversion done, my dad told me there s no such thing and I remember arguing with him that you had you just never told me.

he then checked and saw those tsotsis had nicked both wheels and left it standing on bricks but from the other side it was perfect.
 
I actually wanted to know why are catalytic converters not stolen in SA like they are overseas.
have our nyope tsotsis not discovered this? considering they steal manhole covers for scrap metal.

Even if there was no inital demand on the black market, the guys steal the stuff sell it to parts shops. And then when your lights get stolen you have to go to a parts shop to replace them, and the cycle continues.
