Remote opportunities on the rise for job seekers in the IT sector in South Africa

Part of me actually doesn't mind going into the office, the one advantage is the actual separate place for work and home.
When you're working from home, there isn't that distinction.

3-4 of my colleagues moved to coastal areas (sold their houses nogal) because of this. LOL. If in Gauteng, we have to go to office once in a while but once you are outside Gauteng, all good.

Very much so. My daughter works from home for a Singapore based company and I've seen her work from 6am to well past 7pm sometimes. I guess it becomes difficult to seperate your work from your normal routine when it's all happening in the same environment. Although it does come down to the individual and how they manage the situation.

First World problems when some of us spend 2-4 hours a day in traffic.

I am 2 days at home 3 in office and days at home am i willing to work more? Yes, because on work days i have to leave home 6:30 to avoid some traffic and i leave work 4:30 and get home 5:30 to 6pm so take away my commute time and i am willing to work more.

The company i work for use to be 3 days at home but then they had a few recruitments go bad now Wednesdays are compulsary in office to "build relationships with your manager" but they all go sit in meetings whole day on Wednesday so we don't even see them.

They too ignorant to realise the company is rather toxic and their turnover is high because people hate their jobs and enviroment. The CEO who made the call even works more than 6 months of the year remote in other countries because its in his contract...

I just pee'd a little reading that sentence.

WTF kind of excuse is that.
I speak to my manager maybe once every few weeks, waiting for him to visit SA again in a month or two so I can set up a dude weekend teaching him to drink some proper brandy.

Less is more. Companies need to wake up and read the room, the days of locking people in a cage is over.
Turns our most people, and companies, do just fine when you show a little bit of trust and respect.

I still get nightmares about the years I spent leaving the house when it's dark and coming back when it's dark.
 
Can do in office if you're 10-15 mins or less away. It's the 45+min commutes where you got to do the cost-benefit analysis vs remote job, and that difference in pay would need to be huge (probably would decline as not interested in moving closer)...

Nope, start work and leave at 15:30, flexi time, this should be a thing in more places. Not everyone needs to be in the office at 8am, plus schools starting at 07:45 is the problem with traffic, space people coming in and it will improve.
