No word if DStv will broadcast the Commonwealth Games this year on SuperSport

Still no update to the guide, but at least we have this;

From AI:

MultiChoice and SuperSport have issued zero press releases or public announcements regarding the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. [1]

However, official updates from the organizers reveal a major twist:
  • Official Partnership Confirmed: A Commonwealth Sport global media release named SuperSport and TVMS as the official broadcast partners for Sub-Saharan Africa. [2]
  • The Silent Strategy: SuperSport's complete lack of marketing, schedules, or promotions on their own channels has been flagged by local media platforms like MyBroadband. [1]
  • Late-Hour Deals: The official broadcast agreements were secured at the absolute last minute, which explains why DStv support agents have only just begun telling customers that programming guides will update "tomorrow". [1, 3]
The Games kick off in two days on 23 July 2026.

Next guide update is (or was) usually at 1 pm. If nothing by 7 pm time to worry again. (Decoders are usually updated first.)

French don't care, especially about the commonwealth.

Does look like it's happening this time, even SABC may well be in on it now

The wording seems to suggest it will be an SABC exclusive event in South Africa and maybe Supersport in the rest of Africa

Or maybe SS will put it on their OTT channels only, so only on streaming - wouldn't be a first.

*holds breath*

We will see. I still need to fork out extras to watch the Darts which I'm angry about so more extras to watch olympics...

If they dropped hockey, cricket, badminton, wrestling, table tennis, diving, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, mountain biking, squash, and rhythmic gymnastics then the Games feel pointless in any case. Canal Plus should not waste their money in securing the rights.

After the debacle that was the FIFA World Cup, I think most of us are burned out on these global events anyway.

No idea what you're sayin' here

Nah, still no mention of any of this in DStv news etc. Just the following story on the supersport site but without any viewing options mentioned.

And I checked the rest of Africa guide, also nothing.

As for SABC, anyone's guess. Certainly can't rely on their guide

Maybe it is time for DStv to die

Even if I had dstv, I can't be bothered with the Commonwealth games.

The thing is it's not just about that is about the constant removal of content including the winter Olympics but they expect to retain customers and up the price.

Same with the Zimbabwe vs India cricket series that tarts tomorrow. Supersport didn't show the Zimbabwe vs Bangladesh and they aren't showing this one either.

Thankfully SportyTV will show it for free on youtube. If they can show it for free why is SuperSport not showing it? Aren't they Africa's biggest sport broadcaster...

Looks like a misprint, must be the Indian match. But no sign of the games that follow it.

And another win... on my Explora's Guide:

201 9:00 pm - Glasgow 2026 Opening Ceremony (until 11:30 pm)
"Opening Ceremony. LIVE from Glasgow, Scotland. Thu 23/07"

Not on the online guide or the online streaming guide yet. Nor anything on SABC's guide yet.

Who knows why they delayed so long though. Maybe the contract was that sensitive, apparently scouts visit forums etc. to gauge public reaction to help drive the price up / down
