Goodbye passwords — Google launches selfie logins

Google has launched a new way for users to log into their accounts: facial recognition scans via video selfies.

The new feature was announced in a blog post on Thursday, 23 July 2026, where Google posted a video showing how it could help people struggling to remember their passwords to get into their accounts.

Yeah, Google is trying to do it without specialised face rec hardware, instead they are doing it with hardware that AI's can simulate far more easily.
Yeah they canned it after the Pixel 4 for some reason.

I buried mine in the garden. Switch is only activated by my *genuine Lasher(middle class) spade.

It's #nonstick
Is that the spade you use when attending rallies? You hide it behind the VOTE ANC posters while you toyi-toyi

You can now log into your Google account with a selfie video

Google is now letting you log into your account with a selfie video. You of course first need to set this up, by recording an initial selfie video, in which you just look at your device's camera and complete "a few short, guided head movements to capture multiple angles", the company says.

After that, you can log into your Google account with a selfie video, for example if you've forgotten your password. Google will compare the new selfie video with the one you recorded when you set up the feature and let you in.

You can delete the saved selfie video at any time from your account, and Google says it's only used for helping you sign in, "unless you opt to share it for additional purposes". The selfie video is "encrypted at rest", meaning it's securely stored even when it's not being used.

Google assures us that it's using "multiple layers of security" for this feature in order to prevent impersonation attempts with fake photos and videos. To see if your account is eligible to use this feature and set it up if it is, go here.

How do you,do it on a PC?
Two of the Gmail acts I use are in the name of a club.
I cannot see how an account "Capecomputer**** " can create a selfie
Take a picture of the computer and use that 🤪

Right when AI can mimic a fake video AI of you with ease. Kind of worried. Fingerprints yes. Video selfie I don't trust. I will see if I can disable that option personally.

Heck, there was a well publicized fraud recently where an employee at a major company was called into a meeting with what he thought where senior managers in his company and made a payment to the fraudsters as it appeared so real. This feels like they are leaving the vault wide open for identity thieves.
