Four men taking on Uber and Bolt in South Africa

Four men, Percy Qamata, Msizi Mtolo, Cebile Magudulela, and Luther Mfetane, have launched Bro Cabs, a subscription-based ride-hailing service currently operating in Johannesburg.

According to Qamata, the platform is positioned to take on players like Bolt and Uber in the city, but under a very different operating model. He said the app had over 1,000 registered drivers.
 
Always nice to see people actually trying to do something. A single endeavour like this creates more jobs than government has done in the last 20 years. Good luck to them.
 
If they are smart they would get a rep here on the forums to get ideas and feedback. Would love to support a local initiative like this.

My first advice, use Whatsapp. SMS is not trusted. Secondly its not reliable. I tried to register, nothing came through :-( Guess I'll try next time I remember
 
Let's see this last longer than three months. It looks like a scam.
 
its not hard beating Bolt whom i might ad never had good service on (like never even tried picking me up lol)

never had issues with Uber.
competition is always good.

My biggest issue with Uber and Bolt is the cleanliness of the cars...some of them are hazardous.

I will prefer to stick to Uber, they have this pinned down to a fine art. I can't see someone doing it better than they do. Not that wouldn't want it to work for others, but I just don't think anyone can beat Uber, and Lyft in second.

end of the day its all the same

drivers don't necessarily work for Uber they have a phone with an app thats it they do what they want

next time you take a uber ask them and youll find out they all renting from a company and they do other jobs as well. non locals are normally talkative on the subject.

Cape Town CBD...most of them are nasty. When go a bit further away and I don't want to drive I take a black because I don't want to risk sitting in a smelly car for too long :ROFL:

Bolt's electric cars are nice though...for now, while they are still new.

Ja no id rather drive only use uber when car is being serviced.

or wife needs car and i need to go somewhere and desperate to go. otherwise locally i can just walk
 
It isn't a bad idea tbh. Being able to be consistently profitable with a small team allows you to undercut a bigger player. And its not like getting the coding right is difficult nowadays.
 
That's a pretty good idea.

I hope it works for them and the drivers.
