Isn’t Portsmouth in Hampshire?
Portsmouth water is different to southern water.@Sinbad needs reporting for contravention of that hosepipe ban then.
He’s been washing his yacht with a hosepipe…
Stocked up on credits for the coming winter.
I don’t really understand how a combi boiler works but we have gas heating water and a “geyser”. I’ve switched the electric portion off ages ago and am really pleased with how little gas is used in summer.

The tank is actually rather clever (if a little old fashioned). Its a geyser, but the electrical element is a backup. Its a closed-loop system with the boiler; a copper pipe runs from the boiler to the geyser, gets made into a coil inside the tank, and then back to the boiler. The water inside it is heated and that heat is transferred to the water in the tank.Stocked up on credits for the coming winter.

I’m really not sure, it definitely does not heat on demand. I run the water heating twice a day and without it the water is cold. The house is 20years old but has had some upgrades over the years. Lots of grundfos valves and what not in the utility room. The tank is actually rather clever (if a little old fashioned). Its a geyser, but the electrical element is a backup. The combi boiler is basically like the gas geyser back in SA, except it has the closed loop for the heating along side heating up the water. As far as I understand a combi is what is described as tank-less as it heats the water directly for your taps, so (and I could be completely wrong) if you have a tank then I don't think you have a combi boiler.
You don't have a combi then. You've got a normal boiler. it probably kicks on and off "randomly" through the day to maintain temp in the tankI’m really not sure, it definitely does not heat on demand. Will get a plumber out after the sale completes cause we have some plans I need to run past a professional.
Yeah, which is what I switched off. Quote a significant saving on electricity for a minor increase in gas usage. You don't have a combi then. You've got a normal boiler. it probably kicks on and off "randomly" through the day to maintain temp in the tank
Yeah that switch is the boost switch - for when you need a quick boost of temp in the tank. Never ever have it onYeah, which is what I switched off. Quote a significant saving on electricity for a minor increase in gas usage.
Our tank has what I refer to as "the kettle button" which turns on the electric element, but then to keep the water in the tank heated with gas there is a hot water option on the control panel which is the boiler control for heating and hot water.Yeah that switch is the boost switch - for when you need a quick boost of temp in the tank. Yeah, its the perfect accompaniment to a solar setup.I much prefer my setup to the tank setup. Hot water any time of day for as long as you want at the exact temp you want.
Had the same setup in SA. The only time the water would go could is when gas bottle runs out.
Actually need to make a plan to go back. Haven't been in over 8 years. But want it to be an actual holiday, not just for a wedding or funeral like usual.Booked our tickets to SA last week... had to drop £2800 (and thats without seat selection). Flying out on Air France and flying back on KLM. Seat selection will happen once the Mrs gets her salary.
We are doing 4 cities in 4 weeks.Actually need to make a plan to go back. Haven't been in over 8 years. But want it to be an actual holiday, not just for a wedding or funeral like usual.
I noticed this wasn't jumped on in the other thread. I'm at a loss to work out why - generally these things are posted here with great excitement.![]()

Probably because it wasn't even posted there (unless I completely missed it). I've only just seen it here.I noticed this wasn't jumped on in the other thread. I'm at a loss to work out why - generally these things are posted here with great excitement.
Odd.
Or maybe not.
