End of driving licences as you know them in South Africa

Two major recent developments have brought South Africa's driving licence regime closer to its biggest changes in nearly three decades.

Since the introduction of the plastic driving licence card in 1998, motorists have needed to renew their card every five years, a relatively short period compared to what is applied in other countries.

Not all countries - my dad, in the US, has to renew his every four years.
