For 180 years, South Africa’s oldest newspaper, The Herald, has chronicled the people, politics and events that have shaped the Eastern Cape. Now, along with sister publication Daily Dispatch, the historic titles face an uncertain future after their new owners failed to pay staff salaries.

Three months after taking ownership of two of the Eastern Cape’s best-known newspapers, Ubuntu Media Holdings has failed to pay about 100 employees their July salaries — leaving staff searching for answers about the future of the publications they produce.

The company acquired five Eastern Cape titles from Arena Holdings on 1 May, including The Herald in Gqeberha, South Africa’s oldest newspaper, Daily Dispatch in KuGompo City, as well as community titles Go & Express, Talk of the Town and The Rep.

Kill of some more non aligned newspapers?

When last did anyone here buy a newspaper of any description? 🤔
I bought some to have some pictures for the kids to cut out for a project.

I actually do like reading some of the stuff in the local papers, which are 100% advert supported. They drop off a bunch of them in the complex for residents to read. It is quite nice to not read something on the phone for once.

No, my word of the day is mellifluous. It is how I feel your name sounds like when I read it

Oof I love it when you talk foreign!

In all seriousness though I've always wanted to be compared to a Disney character
