I'm totally confused by this, what could the reason be?

I had to go out and get a new car battery on Monday morning. When I returned home, I found that my front electric gate as well as the automated garage door did not want to open when I pressed the buttons on the two remotes.
I then found that while the car was on/idling and I pressed the buttons that they won't work. As soon as I switched the car off however, both the gate and the garage door opened/closed as per normal. I have tried this exercise since Monday evening up to this morning and the outcome was the same.
Would anyone know the reason for this? Can changing the car's battery have this impact as I have not heard of this before. There have been no other changes to my house and surrounds.
I would appreciate some input. Thanks.
 
The alternator could be generating more interference with the new battery than it did with the old, or battery terminals are not properly tightened.. could also be battery in the remote is dying, sending a less strong signal than normal..

Any trackers fitted to your car?



Something I've learnt from the autolekkies, always blame the tracker!!

Terminals are tight. Think I will check the batteries in the remotes. Although for both batteries in both remotes to go at the same time would be weird.

It's an interesting thought. My work car is the only one in our house that has a tracker fitted. It's also the only one where you have to get right up to the gate before the remote works whereas all the others work from some distance away.

Can also try holding the remotes outside the car window while idling and see if they work then.. would help isolate the issue to interference from the car somewhere if the remotes work that way..

In the past and right up to changing the battery, the remotes would work without fail even from some distance away.

I have a Centurion gate motor but have the ET remotes fitted as the alarm system also runs off them. Haven't tried the Centurion remote but thinking about it now maybe I'll test it over the weekend.

We have always had the same remote for the same gate motor. Will have to check the brand.

Trackers are bad, because the have to be hidden and so if you are working on a car you wont know if a car has one or not - or where it is.

*If you have a battery drain that you can't explain, blame the track-er*

It must be a very cowboy thing to install a tracker, find a new secret spot with some wires, strip the wires and check the voltage, connect the tracker and hide it away.

There are no checks to see if one is already there, I know my wifes car actually has two and I think mine does as well.
No wonder I always have battery issues.
