MultiChoice shutting down 4 DStv channels in September

What was the purpose of these channels?
 
I'm now betting the loss of 104 MMovies 1 is a sign of 1 or 2 new movie channels of their choice being inserted instead.

Makes sense, MultiCanal had been talking about including their brand of international movies. Problem is much of that is expected to be dubbed / subtitled, but let's see....
 
M-Net Movies 1 is one of the few advantages of Premium and now even that will be gone. Canal Plus don't care as they know that only the rugby obsessed still subscribe to Premium and they will keep paying no matter what. Math is generally not their strong point.
 
MMovies 1 & 2 also available on the "Add Movies" option (for all sub-Premium packages except for cheap EasyView). So that screws up that arrangement... unless they replace MM 1
 
The SuperSport updates will introduce clearer, sport-specific channels, which MultiChoice said would make it easier for fans to find their favourite sporting action.

Yeah, I'm done being interested in this lot. And @Lupus if you say "told you so" I'll kick you! :p

Thing is, it's a good survival strategy for them, but at least 7 dedicated channels for footie & soccer (and that just looking at SA) is not most of our cup of tea :-/
Let's see if this works, and maybe they expand again later - say in about 3 years' time.

This seems to make sense to me. How many people actually watch Mnet Movies 1? The "premiere" or newer movies that it shows I would imagine people either watch on their Sunday night premiere on M-Net, or streamed on demand on catchup - so thats a non issue.

We watch a lot of Afrikaans content, and have premium, and I have never even heard of Kyknet Lekker, so no real loss there either.

Ooops, nearly forgot this - the extra streaming 8 x OTT sports channels - maybe a chance that our additional sports will move there, but they don't seem much used the last few months so not holding my breath.

Hope is, if they get things cheaper by keeping them off satellite we may then still get enough. At least they didn't cancel any.
(Ch. 243 (the ninth channel) is only for free use these days though.)

They keep unavailable channels hidden from regular decoder usage. It's largely old KykNET content IIRC.
 
Why subscribe in the first place?
If you don't yet know you, actually, have a choice, keep paying, you're the mark.

yeah, the movies will in any case also be shown on the other movie channels. Plus they've been removing, adding and shuffling movie channels for decades now. Of all the movie channels, Movies 1 is probably the channel I watch the least.

Because kyknet lekker is not a Premium channel. It's kyknet for dstv Access only.

As for the two Mzansi channels, never watched that crap in my life, so no loss.
