Which legendary musicians or bands have you seen live?

U2, 360 Tour, famous for that claw stage at Soccer city.

1964 - The Beatles in Copenhagen. Ringo Starr was sick I believe
1976 - Wings in Wembley Stadium in London
June 1989 - Cliff Richard at Wembley - over 140 000 fans came along. It took us 4 hours to get home (to Surrey)
2009 - Cliff Richard and the Shadows at the O2 arena in London

I think its sad that many I see did not get to enjoy Chester. Linkin Park , followed by Metallica were my favorite.
 
been to a few, most not really worth a mention (dragged along by friends)

there are a couple of notables:
simple minds - performing (berlin)
kid creole and the coconuts (marbella)
night of the proms (bbc symphony orchestra) - royal albert hall
eddie grant (cape town)

simple minds - i have been a lifelong devotee

kid kreole - nikki beach, marbella - i was there on holiday & tickets became available to resort guests, i thought "why not".
this was far and above the most fun ever - not really a band of choice but the performance and stage presence was incredible.
he also has a reputation for dragging audience members on to stage to sing and dance - great entertainment !!

night of the proms - my taste in classical music is rather specific, it has to be big requiring a full orchestra, preferably with plenty percussion - dont be giving me harps, flutes and violins.
so this one is interesting in that i was in london at the time doing some work for dirco.
for the final performance, invites are sent out the to the various high commissions of commonwealth member countries in london, thereafter to other embassies. the high commissions / embassies are encouraged to bring their nation flag along - this is supposed to be a symbolic gesture of unity.
i happened to be in the right place at the right time & was added to the guest list of the sa high commission in london.
the royal albert hall is known for it's phenomenal acoustics - this performance still gives me goosebumps when i watch.
from an audio perspective alone, it was a sensory overload - the very essence of what the absolute top end of audio equipment manufacturers try to replicate.
ive been to a few orchestra performances (before and after), none come near, this one will forever remain the benchmark of audio perfection for me.

some other oddities:
coolio- spent a night in a hotel room (cape town) with him (90s) - a night of chemical indulgence.
and no - not tricky antics, just lots of laughs with too many chemicals
grace jones - (cape town). she was performing here, a friend was involved with the concert.
i popped by during the afternoon, the crew and her were doing sound checks). friend and i had way too much to drink, and a few other things.
we were backstage and she started singing "la vie en rose" - a french song, but with one english verse.
i started singing along during the english verse, she stopped and demanded to know who was singing.
friend pushes me thru the curtains "its him, it's him", he shouts.
grace: "come come, come sing with me".
very sheepishly i step forward telling her i only know the english lyrics for the one verse.
"sing with me" she repeats - and starts up.
the woman has an incredibly strong voice and vocal range - simply not possible to keep up.
i belt out as best i can.
"fabulous fabulous" is her response - lets do it again.
so now with a bit of confidence i go all in, trying to keep up and match her.
we finish - "you must sing with me tonight she says".
i tell her i was on a flight to jhb later - would love to have done it.
truth be known, i was booked on to a flight, but there is no chance i hell i have the balls to sing on stage in front of a liver audience - never ever going to happen - and my throat was completely wrecked just from singing one verse, twice.

I have watched several big live concerts in SA, non-involved by what I would call legendary artists. Also, all pre-2016, attended several during 2005-2009.

Nowadays I like to keep it to smaller venues, obviously, mostly local artists.

The older I got, my interest started leaning more towards live theatre than concerts, and I do like a good orchestra.
