I had a golden circle ticket for Smashing Pumpkins in Cape Town at the Three Arts Theatre which got cancelled and eventually rescheduled to a date I could not attend ... the one that got away, regret not seeing them to this day

I had the chance in Cape Town, and chose not to

Cape Town stadium was still figuring out acoustics which is generally awful, and the wind was pumping, first hand reviews confirmed it kinda sucked ... also someone got killed in the queue by an advertising board blown over in the gale force wind, might have been me if I went ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

saw Red Hot Chilli Peppers at the same stadium, acoustics sucked donkey balls!
went to Calabash 2025 at the same stadium, acoustics were fine

that venue is very much a gamble, weather dependent
for the Capetonians who like good acoustics at live events: the Grand Arena is tops, Kirstenbosch is also great despite being outdoors
 
I've seen a few over the years, mostly in the UK. some notable/big names with guesses at the year...

U2 at Murrayfield on the Joshua Tree tour 1986
Madonna at Wembley on the Blonde Ambition tour 1990
Red Hot Chilli Peppers London Astoria 1990
Pixies Brixton Academy London 1990
Paul Simon on the Graceland tour at the old Green Point stadium 1991

My music is mostly punk so I've seen a ton of punk bands more than anyone else.

Sex Pistols last year in Glasgow was the highlight of my gig life.

Also,

Stiff Little Fingers, my fave band ever I've seen 4 times
The Pogues twice (thrown out of another one before the gig started)
The Stranglers twice (with and without Hugh Cornwell)
The Undertones
The Exploited
The Rezillos
Buzzcocks

Damn, this thread is a reminder that the late 2000s and early 10s were a great time for big international performers coming to SA.
 
And just how many great SA bands were rocking back then.

I didn't mention any in my post but others listing them all have brought back plenty, plenty memories of those bands.

Local band for me from Edinburgh, my claim to fame is I beat the lead singer Wattie at pool.

Anyway, cool story. I went to see them in Shepherds Bush in London once, must have been about 1990. I was on my own and had enough money for two beers. I had to take a tube and bus to get there and was pretty early and the support band were on and I'm at the bar nursing my first beer. I see a face at the side of the stage and it's Goggs, the guitarist that I knew quite well from school and he lived near to me. Anyway, he comes over and we chat away, I tell him I'd buy him a pint but I'm skint, he says no worries, heads back stage and comes back with 4 cans. Turns out the beer was free for them backstage and he grabbed me a few :p

Turned out it was a good night.

Seen a few great international acts too, from Metallica to NOFX and NIckel Creek.

Also saw Rodriguez (at Grandwest) like some folks here, was great for nostalgia but technically wasn't great.
