Florida leprosy cases increase again in latest update.

Two new leprosy cases were reported in Brevard County, part of a growing number of Hansen’s disease diagnoses that again put Florida near the top of the national list.

The Florida Department of Health has confirmed two additional Hansen’s disease cases in Brevard County in its latest report, bringing the county’s total this year to three as of Aug. 1 and Florida’s statewide tally to 19.

Last year, when Florida accounted for more than 20% of all U.S. leprosy diagnoses, there were 20 cases reported by this time. The state ultimately recorded 36 cases in 2025, up from 20 in 2024.

Details about the latest victims have not been released, but one is between 70 and 74 years of age and the other between 80 and 84, health data shows.

It's fine, trickle down economics will ensure that everyone gets at least one parsnip per week.
"You're going to suffer but we'd blame Biden or Obama and you'd be happy as a result. Do you understand?"

I'm not an economist but I sometimes wonder why average Joe thinks pure capitalism is the best economic system or thinks billionaires have their best interests at heart. Listen to Bessent. Educated and articulate, but somehow echos brain dead maga hogwash at every opportunity because it works for him. I'm intrigued.

I think it's because they see the alternative as "you'll own nothing and you'll be happy" - ignoring that social democracies seem to be the countries with the happiest inhabitants. And ownership of stuff remains quite popular in those jurisdictions.

Relevance to the politics thread?

Every few years when the numbers spike someone will post a news article as if it's some kind of political gotcha.

Deserved is too strong a word. I would have gone with "Reaped what they sowed"

The government deserved to be attacked on 9/11, but not the civilians.

But as is usually the case, the government at the time, did not let the crisis go to waste and implemented all the laws that made america a less democratic country and the world a less safe place.

You can say that Muslims extremists also deserved what came after.

Hey at least the Republicans got rid of the "woke plagues" and replaced it with the good old ones.
