Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 7

Is the Apple cache working correctly? Openserve JHB.

Had degraded blurry quality issues last night on my Apple TV 4K on Obsession and today I still have the same issue with Widows Bay even after a restart of ONT, router and device. Changed to 1.1.1.1 and it had the same issue.

Netflix is fine on the same device.

Hi, Traffic levels look normal on the apple cache, have you tried multiple titles to confirm?

Also its worth then trying to stream to another device like a phone etc.

Signed in on my TV and it seems fine., thanks for the suggestion.

So strange as all the other apps on the Apple TV work fine. And there’s no option to reinstall that app. Seems like it’s time to factory reset

How does the Apple TV connect to your network? If via wireless it may be worth just testing with a cable. Could be a throughput issue and the apple TV stream uses more bandwidth or the like.

It’s the 64Gb latest gen so there’s no LAN port to try. On paper it should be the best location in the house - it's in the same room as the router, on the 5GHz band and we're on 1000Mbps Openserve now.

And yet it's dipping down regularly to what looks like 480p while the TV app two rooms away on 2.4Ghz Wifi looks like crystal clear 4K on a connection that's probably 100Mbps at best.

Weird indeed.

Weird indeed.

Just checked with a longer time, and both devices have the same issue if you leave it running. Reminded me a lot of the old Apple TV issues when I first joined CI before the cache.

I think I must check with a wired laptop or even swop out with the original Cudy router to be sure.

It might be worth double checking to make sure you are hitting the cool ideas cache:

You can also see what speeds you get from the apple cache by downloading a test file: https://test.edge.apple/salty/1g

Thanks. Looks like I am reaching the cache.

Tried on a wired device with the Cudy router. Terrible quality and buffering. Tried the F1 movie, Obsession, Widows Bay and they all are bad.

But every other app is fine and a VC 5G hotspot is fine for Apple TV.

So if multiple devices have the issue, multiple movies have the issue, the issue is on wired and wireless, the router is changed with no improvement and a simple mobile WiFi hotspot on a different ISP solves it then that probably means I need to log a fault tomorrow?

Change DNS servers and try pull from a none CISP cache

Well it usually means there is then loss on your line if you have done all the other stuff. So yes please log.

Hi there, thank you for reaching out.
Unfortunately I do see an outage listed for the area.

Thank you

The first screenshot text is heavily blurred and illegible.

If there was work being done around 17h30, how did the net only go offline around 22h00?

So they'll only work on this present outage in the morning?

Well the root cause suggests that "Damage appears to be related to contractor activity in the area."
So the contractors working in the area could have done more damage since then. Unfortunately this is as much as I know at this stage, and not sure why you would have only experienced downtime from 10pm.
It could be that your downtime is also unrelated, so I would recommend logging a ticket to be safe.

Several of my neighbours reported at same time this connectivity loss, so it may be observatory wide, as it's not just my direct neighbour or street, but also across several blocks away from my street.

Yeah, it's very strange
