What is driving the current “anti alcohol” rhetoric online

what-is-driving-the-current-“anti-alcohol”-rhetoric-online?

It's largely driven by the WHO, who largely drove Covid and so would seem to be partnering with Socialism uprisings too 🤷‍♂️
Yay social media, MSM, Globalism and powa

Addiction and impulse control are two sides of the same coin. Someone with impulse control issues can just as easily get hooked on sugar as they could on alcohol.

One path could see you ending up in rehad, or dying from liver failure in extreme cases (but luckilly livers are pretty good at reparing themselves if you give them a chance).

The other will go buy mostly unoticed until one day they need to start lobbing off your appendages and your kidneys start to fail (kindeys on the other hand, cant repair themselves - when they give up its dailysis or death, unless you can get a transplant, and you arent getting a transplant unless you are generally healthy - which means that sugar addiction is still going to be problem)
You do know that someone with poor impulse control could get addicted to anything right?
You do know what impulse control is and the lack of it is right?
Plus you do know what alcohol inhibits and what sugar doesn't?
Plus you do know what addiction is? Sugar is habit forming not addictive. One of the biggest signs it's not addictive is you don't generally see people going from 2 sugars in their tea to 40 in a few weeks.
You also don't see people going around withdrawing from sugar. Though this would be hard as it's in a lot of things we eat and drink naturally.
Addiction is when you start you need to keep escalating to get the same thrill, you can stop at any time honest...
Yes it's possible someone with poor impulse control already would become addicted to sugar, but they already had an issue. It wasn't caused by the sugar

You guys still playing pigeon chess with a drunk?
I mean if half of your argument is about cooking with alcohol. Geez I am a bit of a cook myself and I am sure less than 0.001% of recipes involves alcohol.
Plus you could just switch the alcohol for something else.

No man - how can we be misunderstanding each other on something this basic? With different strains of marijuana, it is still the intoxicating effect of the marijuana which is the experience.

When doing wine tasting, the taste, while still completely sober, is the experience. When pairing with food, the taste, while still completely sober, is the experience.

You only become intoxicated with alcohol much later, and only if you keep consuming past the initial taste experience.

You do not go to a wine tasting to get drunk. You might get drunk while at a wine tasting, but only if you stay on to finish off the bottles.

You go to a marijuana experience to get high. You are not going to taste the different strains, you are going to experience their phycoactive, mind altering effect.

Yes, but it is all happening without any intoxication. Like I said, you can easily continue drinking past the tatsing experience, and then become intoxicated - but the tasting experience is a sober experience.

But tasting wine, or food and wine pairings is not something you experience because of the effect of any drug. The narcotic effect, if any, only comes afterwards.

No - this is the part you seem to not want to understand. Wine tasting, Whiskey Tasting, Beer Tasting, Food and Wine Pairing experiences are just that. The food and wine is the experience. If you then choose to order a bottle of the wine and continue drinking until you experience a mind altering effect, that is a seperate thing all together - and admittdly one I often do. But the base experience was the food and the wines taste - while still being sober.

Again, the alchohol in the wine or whiskey is not the experience (when talking about tastings, pairings etc) - When you crack a bottle, crush the lid and say, right, lets get shitfaced, then yes, the alcohol is the experience.

We are 15 pages into this thread already - no one has suggested any of what you have just said.
Mate. None of this matters. You're quibbling over a mechanism of action. Worse you're shifting the goalposts.

Your point was that you can have unique enhancements of perception, or unique experiences with alcohol (e.g. food pairings), and that those enhancements can be shared socially.

You espoused this as a uniquely positive thing about alcohol.

I'm simply pointing out that this is not something unique to alcohol. This isn't a special thing you get to attribute to alcohol alone and no other substance.

It is however possibly one of the first such social circle jerks in history.

Anyway, subject seems exhausted...

There will ALWAYS be alcohol, people are just waking up and realising it's over priced and destructive, and most of it tastes like garbage. Seriously, if you're not going to get sozzled or broken drunk, then what is the point to drinking that expensive crap?
Gen z and Millennials woke up one day and decided they didn't need it. Most governments around the world have taxed the living daylights out of it.

Apologies @Zellephant, but I have to ask which benefits are those ?

PS: I'm going to be extremely honest and serious here for a moment, truthfully, I deeply despise alcohol, I'm not going to go into the who, what, when, where, why, and how.
I have written many long posts about that in this thread already - I am not going to repeat it all again. If it really matters to you, feel free to go back. If I have a chance later I will try link them here.

Just for the record, I have been clear all along of the downsides of addiction and abuse, and have not ignored them in my argument.

I have another theory. (Regarding the original question) Wearable fitness trackers.

Since I've got my latest Garmin, I've cut my boozing by more than half. Any more than 2 drinks, and I wake up with a flat lining body battery, I still feel fine, but it obviously affects my body and has a dramatic effect on HRV and body battery (whatever that measures).

The funny thing is, not so long ago drugs were seen in this light. Now they're almost worshiped by some. I really feel sorry for these new generations, they've got a lot of extra untangling to do.

Okay - when you swop out the oregano for dagga for your next pizza evening, or start mixing crystal meth into your Cajun rub for the flavour enhancements, let me know.

Also, since you guys seem so certain about it, I am going to go and visit a few of these dagga emporiums around us, and check out the tasting menus and see what strains they recommend to go with what meals - I just need to figure out how to experience that without getting stoned.....

You mean Gen Z, millenials still drink a lot, remember the youngest millenial is 30 this year, the eldest is pushing 46

How does one "untangle" with all the herd mentality that is evident everywhere? How does one "find oneself" when there's this need to make sure 100's of people are watching you every second of every day?

There are higher realities
