M-Net Movies 2 to be rebranded M Movies+

The M-Net Movies 2 channel on DStv will be renamed to M Movies+ on 16 September 2026, the same date on which the platform will drop the M-Net Movies 1 channel.

This is according to veteran broadcasting journalist Thinus Ferreira, who revealed the planned changes in a post on Twitter/X.

No, more like "Hopefully they'll forget that Mnet Movies 1 was closed if we rename 2".

Don't know for how much longer they're going to keep closing channels and try spin it as improvement, but we all know what it really is.

For Canal+, they need to start using their media might to bring new content in and add amazing channels, but I guess taking out the dirt isn't a bad first step.

Closing channels that show repeats?
Do you need 4 movie channels if they all show the same movies??

Dstv has renamed, reshuffled, removed, replaced etc their mnet movie channels for many years now. Goes through this exact same cycle every few years.
 
As we've been told to expect their European movies, still pretty sure this will be a replacement not a cancellation. The new king of movies must take prime spot - channel 104 likely.
If not now, then by Xmas is my bet.

Question will be how much is foreign, and if they were wise enough to use sub titling instead of dubbing. I'm expecting to like around 15 to 20% of it.

Apparantly with the modern age of internet I need zero channels that show repeats.
I can actually go further and just build channels that repeat if I really wanted to.

DSTV is now a old man with lots of medical conditions.

That does not change the fact that the current business model is almost dead.
It was the same story for DVD rental stores.

I knew back then the stores would close, and all of them did.

Sure, when it comes to your more modern Saffers (like us) , only really useful for sport and niche interests.

For the bulk of Africans, a different story.

Yeah, I know it's their business strategy.

Even the rest of Africa will eventually get proper internet.
Cheap cellphones have become better and better.

I just would not personally invest in poor Africans
because I don't have an understanding of how they think.

Many shacks do have satellite dishes.
If the rest of Africa gets basic grants for not working and children, then
I am sure they will spend that money on TV rather than important stuff.

Time will tell if they prefer satellite TV or very cheap internet with basic on-demand shows.
