Cool Ideas Fibre ISP – Feedback Thread 7

Several of my neighbours reported at same time this connectivity loss, so it may be observatory wide, as it's not just my direct neighbour or street, but also across several blocks away from my street.

Yeah, it's very strange
Connectivity restored around 23h15

This kind of thing has happened before, last week most recently. Late night net loss, an hour or so later, restores. Occurring a few times a week.

Reports in our neighborhood about no internet. Your sister company has it on their status. Do you know of any issues around Bellville, Western Cape? I didn't seen anything on Cool Ideas announcement page.

Hi, please post a trace. AWS peers in both regions.

its 100% CPT, but not much investigation to be done since they block ICMP among other things. Unsure if the losses on your first two reachable hops is just rate limiting or discarding ICMP0

So one trace has loss to the destination and your other doesn't, what do traces to other destinations look like? It's a good way to compare.
On all their traceroutes you can see local loss?

I am Cape Town as well and mine is clean

On the second trace there is no loss at the destination, is what Pbcool is referring to

If you look at the 3rd image which is a trace to 35.71.103.128 there is no loss to the destination.

And the first few hops are probably Vumatel AE, which is why I mentioned doing some traces to none AWS destinations would be helpful.

Gotcha, well from my side no loss to any of the IPs.

I got the two images confused when scrolling up.

Seeing packet loss to Cloudflare websites on ipv6 only by the looks of it constant 20-30% PL ipv4 to the same domain is perfect. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi there. Not that I can see on my monitoring, can you share an example? Or has it cleared up?

Sounds like a handfull you inherited there. Goodluck :).
Since you are liaising with Afrhost already, might as well ask them if they have the FRG number on File.

@CoolEscalator so I have placed an order, but it placed 2 for some reason. I have closed the one:
#COOL-20260814-2754492 - New Order Processing - Left this one opened and replied to it with Lease, Mail from Afrihost and Screenshot from Afrihost saying the line is released.... which I am skeptical about.
#COOL-20260814-2754494 - New Order Processing - I replied and closed this one.

I have stated that the fibre cable and ONT need to be checked as well.
Still no idea on the FRG number, we poked around in the Afrihost Client Zone but didnt see it, so not going to try, and will leave it to Frogfoot to figure out.

Anything else that I need to do ? :)

Thanks for all the info. The only thing needed would be to get images of the existing installation shared as well.
But I will request a new installation order in the meantime

I will do my best, the existing install is what I managed to reconnect last night will moving a few things over, area power is down so cant test. There is the UBNT ONT which I have plugged the very badly wrapped fibre cable back into, it was rolled up like a normal cable and fibre dont link that, and then my own AX50 TPLink router I have spare which I am going to put the old User and Pass into, once power comes up but will attach pics to the ticket :)

Thanks!
