Uber suspends its cheapest ride service in South Africa which experts warned was doomed to fail

Uber has paused its controversial motorcycle-based ride-hailing service, which driving skills experts have criticised as “foolish” and a “hard pass” for people with common sense, Business Day reports.

The Uber Moto service began a pilot in the western parts of Johannesburg’s central business district in mid-January 2025, offering trips starting at R18.
