Five male teenagers have died and four other people were seriously injured after a crash on a motorway in County Kildare, Irish police have said.
Two cars were in a head-on collision on the M9 between junctions 3 and 4 near Athy at around 3am on Sunday.

One of the vehicles was travelling in the wrong direction - southbound on the northbound carriageway of the motorway, according to police.
Gardai were told not to engage with the vehicle, which was allegedly stolen and had previously failed to stop for officers, a police representative group said.

Mr O'Connell said the people in the other car who were injured were a family travelling to Dublin Airport for a holiday. It is believed that they were making the journey to attend a family wedding in England.

What were these kids thinking? Seriously, quite sad.

The previous weekend, nine people were injured in a head-on collision on the M50 in Dublin with a car travelling in the wrong direction on the motorway.
So every country has a JHB?

It's really big news this side, apparently they were part of a youth gang. Gards have been moaning for a while that there is nothing they can do when the suspects they chase in cars are non compliant. I hope the occupants of the other car pull through.

Saw it on Sky News but didn't realise the holiday family survived and the gang members were killed.

They need to start using those graplers.

I am truly saddened to hear that the family got injured, I wish them a full & quick recovery.
On the subject of the 4 young men...

Here we have a bonch o' Irish eejuts makin' like a bonch o' conts an' drivin' on the same side of the road as the Americans - in Ireland.

Anyway, follow me. I'm delicious.

This is the second appalling crash we've seen on our roads in a matter of days as a result of the reckless driving of a car on the wrong side of the motorway

Sounds like they might have been doing it for likes on SM.

Morons. Good riddance.

Hope the other people recover.

Geez, WTF is wrong with people... 😡

Parents didn't give them enough PKs for being boxes when they were younger probably...

Not to defend the kids, but at that age, and probably level of social development, they aren't able to fully comprehend the possible consequences of their actions, or the chasing of likes/acceptance by gang leaders overrides their ability to think properly.
