The Department of Transport has gazetted the proposed extension to driving licence cards for public comment.

The existing driving licence card for code Al, A, B, or EB driving licences issued for a period of five years shall remain valid until the new driving licence card has been issued.

I have to change mine on expiry anyway since i use it often for international car hire. So i'm happy as long as i get a new card quickly.

I actually don't see a problem with this hey, it actually makes sense. Very rare coming from a government department but would you really trust a pig at a roadblock trying to calculate when your new expiry date is on your current card?

They know that the average Metro cop can't read or do math, so asking them to mentally calculate how to add the extension to the existing card expiry date... well, you can see how that will end.
