Licence disc renewals could get significantly more expensive in South Africa if transport minister Barbara Creecy’s recent proposal for a new tax to fund the Road Accident Fund (RAF) proceeds.
In May 2026, the minister said her department was considering a new fee to support the RAF as electric vehicle (EV) adoption grows.
Cant there be a database of 3rd party insurance and integrate it with license plate reader which flags the ones that don't and only those ones get pulled over, that way your time is not wasted.Bullsh|t ... make 3rd party insurance compulsory and check that validity more than anything else at stops/roadblocks. !!
I downloaded the form filled in the pdf and saved it, now each year I just print it out fill in milage, date and sign it. Been doing that for 10 years or so.if you use the PO theres that complicated form to fill in
enatis there isnt
Took the dogs for a drive yesterday to the license department and fetched the form, that took 1 minute and will fill it in at home to today.I downloaded the form filled in the pdf and saved it, now each year I just print it out fille in milages, date and sign it. Been doing that for 10 years or so.
PS: its not complicated it is just information you already have.
Works well. 2-3 days and its doneJust use the eNatis site, its R100 for delivery
Try driving in the US... that is exactly what they do. The fines for not having insurance papers with you are considerable.Bullsh|t ... make 3rd party insurance compulsory and check that validity more than anything else at stops/roadblocks. !!
Post office? What are those?People complain stuff is too expensive, but they are willing to pay R100 to avoid 5 minutes in a post office... (at least if there is a quiet one nearby)
Costs me more than R100 to find this Post Office thingIt costs me more than R100 to leave the house and go stand in a queue. So for me it's cheaper to pay someone else to do it.
Each year natis emails me that same form, once for each car, and I still renew online.I downloaded the form filled in the pdf and saved it, now each year I just print it out fill in milage, date and sign it. Been doing that for 10 years or so.
I get my renewal notice e-mailed by Natis. Last year's I received 1½ months before the disc's expiry date. How do you get your notice?
In my area in CT we still get post delivered (once a week). I got my licence from the CoCT by post last time. It takes a while, but minimal effort.
I once got mine the next day, I was like WTFWorks well. 2-3 days and its done
Las time I used the PO you had to provide a copy of your ID - now tell me, in this day and age, where the hell do most people find a printer..Really? When I last used a PO around covid time , it was just show your notice and it was printed.
