Many thousands living inland die in earthquakes, mudslides, volcano's, tornados etc. Doesn't leave much choice then, from a survival perspective?

I doubt that many here would have heard about a dude called Sadhguru and his Isha foundation. He's quite a well known dude who preaches spirituality (over religion) and is also involved in conservation & soil rejuvenation related initiatives

A group of about 70 of his followers are missing, this woman might be one of them.
 
First time seeing some of these, had heard about the flooding but didn't realise the extent, absolutely horrific. :(

Nature gives zero fscks about our scars on the landscape... I watched the start of that dam sctructure just be completely erased as if thousands of workers hadn't spent years building what they already had.
 
If the people had run towards the hill on the side they might have made it, if of course it was accessible and not blocked off. But it looks like the narrow pass with steep sides really did a number on them.

Even worse for the cars, a few of them might have escaped having their windows broken, but that just meant a few hours of air before they suffocated.
 
saw some of the footage from ground level, scary stuff, luckily they managed to gain elevation and escape.

but more to the point, how is China a communist regime helping out?

Given that building (at least the one @Cray posted) is the border post, I would expect much of it to be locked down and fenced in to control the flow of people.

China is just as impacted as Nepal in that region, they have their own shyte to deal with... but rescue teams generally don't give 2 fscks about politics and will go wherever they can do the most good in an area.

China will probably use the opportunity to remove any Tibetan culture from the area when they rebuild.
