Takealot increases minimum order size for free delivery and changes checkout defaults

With amazon next day delivery you usually get the option to pick a morning or afternoon delivery slot which is great.

With Takealot you must wait from 7am - 7pm for that driver to pitch up only to get a notification at 7pm that they couldn't deliver because you were apparently unavailable. They can keep their Takealot More crap.

Won't bother me too much.
Armgatte like myself build a shopping cart over weeks, months mostly.... when that order is finally kicked off half of JHB needs to get out of the delivery truck's way. Kids scream, potholes weep, birds migrate, security guards at the gate disappear so they don't have to help carry.

For me it's an event, not a lifestyle.

Realistically... people will probably start moving over to amazon because for the sub you ALSO get movies and other stuff... where with takealot you just get "delivery discount" vibes and they are doing the same thing everyone does (Vitality, FNB Ebucks, and and) - cutting the rewards, giving less value for money over time.
Already moved most shopping back to brick & mortar because of the severely degraded quality of search on just about every ecommerce site. Not sure how these MBAs think losing sales because customers can't find what they want is worth the pittance that advertising pays, but if they were smart they'd be doing something with their lives that didn't involve scraping the last morsels of value out of the hollowed bones of the enterprises they've ruined.

Amazon ZA is for many things tremendously expensive compared to Takealot, and has a way worse selection. When I order off Amazon it's from the US site.

Instead, will probably move random shopping to Temu. It's not as if there's a quality difference, and their selection is better still, with the chance of an occasional bad seller.

Luckily I have a pickup point close to me. Much better to collect for me than not knowing when they'll pitch up.

I never had an issue with that, Amazon themselves organized Courier Guy to collect the parcel by me for return to the seller. after a month I got an email from Amazon asking if I want instore credit or a refund and that they will be taking action against the seller.

I got a full refund an hour later and from what I can tell said seller has been banned.

This is completely different to my experience with Takealot and a third party seller.

The collection was not what was described on the listing. I asked for a refund and I dropped the order off at their Durban depot. My refund was rejected, despite accomanying proof that items were missing and how it differs to the seller's description of it. What's worse is that Takealot removed my 1-star review stating that the product is missing items.

I cancelled my subscription and have been loving Amazon since.

I bought a watch face protector for my watch 8 classic from them late november/early December.
It broke mid January and I sent it back expecting a return or refund (Not much, like R300 but yea),
They told me it is my fault and refused then tried to send the broken thing back to me. I would not accept the return.

I then cancelled takealot more and informed them as to why.

Since then I have made one purchase from takealot, last week.

They gave me a 30 day takealot more trial so I took it, got free delivery and cancelled the same day.

The cancellation wanted an explanation.

I wrote.

"Remember that defective R300 item return you denied me in January? I cancelled back then already, thanks for the free delivery"

Anyway, takealot is going the same route as DSTV, simply unable to keep up with the competition.

How can you wait nearly a month for items? Are they getting it from China. If i advertise a product and i tell the client he will have to wait 28 days before he gets it, he will laugh at me.

I honestly don't give a crap about free delivery. I'm more concerned about the fact that Takealot consistently breaks their promises of same-day or next-day delivery. I'm more than happy to pay whatever the cost of delivery is, but for the love of God, if you say an item is available for same-day or next-day delivery then honour that promise when you get to the checkout section.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels like a privileged dunce when this happens.
I mean, waiting another day isn't going to kill me, but it sure is annoying when you're planning your day around that delivery and you just want to get your stuff and go on with life. (That 4:30 to 5PM will-he-won't he sunset wait is the worst)

My favorite local logistics tracking I've seen come from Collivery.net (Geewiz uses them).
They give you an almost real-time tracker update of how far the driver is from you and how many stops he has left before dropping off your stuff. It's not perfect all the time, but it sure is nice. Geewiz in general doesn't f**k around when it comes to orders, they're one of my favorite ecommerce sites in JHB to shop at, I just wish they would modernize their website a little bit.

What was wrong ? Fake item?

‘No whites’ business programme by United States giant Amazon promotes diversity and inclusion in South Africa

United States business giant Amazon Web Services’ (AWS’s) Equity Equivalent Investment Program is promoting diversity and inclusion in South Africa.

This is achieved through its criteria of only accepting 100% black-owned businesses and disqualifying any company where a white person is a shareholder.

The company launched its AWS Equity Equivalent Investment Program in 2019 as part of a R365 million investment to develop 100% black-owned businesses.

There is a focus on small businesses in information and communications technology (ICT) and the digital economy.

The AWS Equity Equivalent Investment Program (AWS EEIP) is an 18- to 24-month enablement and acceleration programme.

It is aimed at South African black-owned small and medium enterprises that want to build their AWS business and grow as partners in the AWS Partner Network.

“We recognise the challenges that SMEs have in accessing low-cost funding, accessing markets and connecting with buyers,” it said.

“Whether you are new to cloud or need help accelerating your AWS partner journey, the AWS EEIP offers a range of benefits to help you grow your business.”

It added that the programme also enables the business to become a validated partner in the AWS Partner Network.

Amazon said it fosters diversity and inclusion globally and seeks to amplify underrepresented voices and empower diverse communities.

As such, the Amazon Web Services’ Equity Equivalent Investment Program has strict minimum eligibility criteria, including a prohibition on white businesses.

“You must be 100% black-owned as defined in the ICT Sector B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice,” Amazon explained.

“100% Black South African, as the term ‘black people’ is a generic term which means Africans, Coloureds, and Indians.”

Simply put, the programme is open to all businesses unless they have a white person as a shareholder or owner.

Businesses are also required to have a valid Level 1 B-BBEE Contributor certificate or affidavit on the date of application.

Other criteria include a turnover below R50 million and 100% founder-owned equity remaining for the contract term.

There must be no debt attached to black people’s shareholding for the duration of the program, and the business must be a Software Partner.

When I buy my kids things in the UK through Amazon I get a page I can go to that shows me where the driver is right now and gives me an estimated delivery time that is usually correct to within 10 minutes.

We are far far behind and it seems locally most couriers are doing their best to give us as much detail as they can about as little information as is possible.

Yeah even more reason not to buy. I only do online shopping if the price actually makes sense to do so, otherwise I get off my butt and do the shopping instore.

Very true.
With today's tech if feels like a few devs. can vibe code a much better tracking system into existence and these local logistics companies seem to be leaving a lot of competitive innovation on the table.

Instant coffee and washing liquid, Amazon is where I buy all my instant coffee now. Just keep an eye on the price and usually save quite a bit compared to in store prices.
