Service providers moving clients to CGNat ip addresses

For the past month I’ve noticed ISPs have been moving clients to CGnat ip addresses . This makes services like dyndns or cctv dvrdns unusable.

Not sure if anyone else has been affected by this change but what can be done to stop this ?

Not sure why you think you would be able to stop ISPs from implementing CGNAT...

If your ISP offers IPv6, that might be the way to go, or a static IP if that's an option..

Alternatively, Tailscale, ZeroTier or CloudFlare tunnels are the work-arounds..

What about cctv systems which rely on dynamically assigned dnses to be updated what would be a solution to this as they support IPv4 only

Already answered, Tailscale, ZeroTier or CloudFlare tunnels is the work around and can replace DynDNS and is far more secure anyway..

Ok so you need to setup a client computer for tailscale etc or can it work on the router or dvr without purchasing a client machine?

No it doesn't.
Makes your internet experience shyte though.
Tailscale is what you need.

Read online that tailscale needs a pc for it to work and can’t work with normal routers only with openwrt ones

OpenWRT can be flashed onto a variety of different normal routers.. Check if your current router is supported or you could buy a supported one, which is going to be less expensive than a PC or other client device to run Tailscale..

Yes you need an endpoint for your tailnet, this could be a computer, a Raspberry Pi, or a thin client like a DELL WYSE 3040

Huh ? Whitelisting incoming IPs from office is not inviting randos unless you open traffic to all

My Plex and NVR stopped connecting after my connection was switched to CGNAT. I reached out to Afrihost through their WhatsApp support channel this morning and within a few minutes they switched me back to PPPoE. Very happy with their support.

Afrihost do remove you from cgnat if you request them.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again though.

This is what happened to me with Cool Ideas, their system will put you on CGNAT when it needs to and it can just randomly happen. I just opted to pay for the static IP.
