City only have Haaland, so its not totally crazy to only have one proper #9. Not comparing Sesko to Haaland at all but I think its overrated in the current game and thestaggy pointed that out above.

I think what's more concerning is we have the same back 4 as we did under Ten Hag..........

Also at the moment United have an infuriating habit of standing off the opposition toward the end of games and allowing the entire opposition team to come onto them as if to say "break us down if you can" ...... and with the players we have right now that isn't difficult for the opposition to do and they generally manage to do it with ease - the only way for United to actually now undisputedly to win the game is to be more than 2 goals ahead in the last 5 minutes - otherwise you know for a fact that its going to inevitably end in a draw or in extreme cases where they add time for goals scored ......an actual loss for United

well then who are the people who are going to score the goals - midfielders and attacking midfielders only do like 7 or 8 per season - the wingers well Rashford in his absolute best season only did 16 in all competitions and he only did it in two seasons in his entire career so far so people think he is a good player in a club that had Christiano Ronaldo banging in 45 in his best season with Rooney and at that time Tevez adding way more than 20 above that - and around 10 to 15 years back if you did not have two players who scored more than 20 in all competitions together with the rest doing the dribs and drabs of 4 and 5 per season you won absolutely nothing

Pep used to always play with a false 9 and then Haaland came in and shattered Peps cr@p and illusions - you still need one or two guys who are proven goalscorers - we had some and we let them go - Lukaku used to score when he was played then Ole stopped playing him and obviously his count dropped and he got critcised maybe because he did not drop back to help defensively - but the Bullschit that United does of scoring one or two and thinking "righto ..... we can defend this" has proven time and time again to be utter nonsense under every manager after Sir Alex

so nope anyone who says strikers are overrated then IMHO you are drinking the wrong Koolaid because who then becomes the goalscorers - SAFs philosophy always was score more than the other team even when they score - nowadays most of our flop managers are thinking more along the lines of "don't lose this game and get sacked" because they set up the team in a bullschit way and you have twats like Jason Wilcox buying the players without caring about any specific managers system he likes to play - if this cr@o continues leave alone the 30 years it took Liverpool to win their next title its gonna take us a 100 years with the current ar5eholes we have owning and running the team in this cant manner before we win number 21
 
No one said anything about not scoring. We have the players for that, Mbuemo, Cunha, Bruno and Sesko are all capable of double figures. Not having more than 1 #9 specialist isn't out of the norm in the league currently.

And even us with only 1 #9 last season still were top 3 in goals scored. City and Arsenal above us had Haaland and for the most part Havertz. And havertz isn't even a classical #9. So the days of Yorke and Cole are long gone, that koolaid needs refeshing:)
 
We had our chances... if not for poor shots straight at the keeper or the lack of front man when the best crosser was on the pitch (Rashford) had no one to cross to... we should have taken a point at minimum that VAR decision was absolutely bollocks, like how NZ got free pass going into a rack from the side over 9 times only getting penalized on the 7th once... City's goal felt like that... 1 VAR call botched while the rest were ok calls

I addressed this in my last comment.

Strikers are not ''overrated''. The way football is played today has made them a scarcity, with the goal output from strikers declining across the PL. The bulk of your goals now come from wide players and from the midfield.

Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke barely knew each other when the latter arrived at Manchester United in the summer of 1998, but the partnership they forged became the stuff of legend. In training, they were often found working together, practising runs, interchanges, dummies and combinations. That season they scored 53 goals between them as the club won the treble. Yorke shared the Premier League Golden Boot with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Michael Owen on 18 goals. Cole finished one behind. The top 10 scorers in the league that season were all strikers.

But the training pitches and scoring charts paint a very different picture today. Finishing drills are infrequent, possession is paramount and the league’s leading scorers are more often wingers, No 10s or false 9s. Traditional centre-forwards are disappearing. Opta data shows the sharp decline in their influence. Two decades ago, strikers scored 41.6% of the Premier League’s goals – 387 of 931. This season, the figure stands at 25.9% – 291 of 845.

Standout individual striker performances have dwindled, too. Between 2007 and 2012, four out of five seasons featured 10 or more hat-tricks by centre-forwards. In the past nine seasons, that threshold has been passed once.

Haaland is an outlier. There is no other player out there like him, so you can't use him as an example of what anybody else should be doing.

And even then, City only have Haaland as an out-and-out striker. After selling Omar Marmoush, they don't have a backup striker, so if he isn't playing they'll be looking at inverted wingers, attacking midfielders and false 9s for goals, just like everybody else.

and exactly how is all that utter crap working out? HINT : it jolly well isn't ....... alternatively it is working out like schit that got left out in the sun for 6 months and which is now forming a hard crust on somebodys ar5e

Yeah this one is a shocker. A 15 year old wanting to leave for not getting senior game time. If he is that way inclined I couldn't care how good he is, he can leave imo. I mean ffs we are **** but that's next level

I mean, it is the way football is being played at an elite level across the best leagues. Nobody has 2 or more elite strikers.

Even Bayern Munich, Kane is their only proper #9 and even he drops into the midfield. Neither Michael Olise, Luis Diaz or Serge Gnabry are out-and-out strikers, they play from out wide or from in behind Kane.

I came here to post this. Something to cap off a great week for United :(

What I read on BBC is that it is the family that have an issue. Wouldn't surprise me if one of the Spanish clubs have whispered in the family's ears, with promises of early cash.

But wait, wouldn't that be more like a City thing to do?

Thing is, he is young, and half the world has been telling him he is the best thing since Messi for years now. Would be hard for any youngster not to get a swollen head.

But I say we gooi him on the pitch. Let him learn the hard way...or prove to everyone he is ready.

Okay, I just fell down the rabbit hole on Reddit.

Sounds like the problem is his father. A former journeyman pro himself who never managed to establish himself anywhere.

JJ was previously in 3 academies (Chelsea, West Ham and Arsenal), with United being his 4th, so he is already club-hopping. Gabriel isn't even the kid's real name. He is basically already a ''brand'', with his dad promoting him on Youtube as young as 9 and where he was referred to as ''Kid Messi''.

Poor kid.

Ok, that gels with the BBC saying it was family. The father sounds like one of those a-hole parents who can make their sporting kids life a misery.
