I am clearly old and shyte.. but an AI to run a vending machine? Seems like a fscking stupid idea before it even started.

A very basic stock management system would do the job infinitely better without the need for any real complexity.

Some people really enjoy this type of mechanic or behavior. To me its like a bit of personal failure that you can't organize your own life or need a daily reminder briefing. I'll skim my calendar at the start of a day but I don't feel the disorganization that would be necessary for this.

Someone I know loves it and personal ai on their pc because they can't track docs etc etc. It just feels invasive to me.

Beyond feeling invasive, I'd find it disconnects me from my own life, and probably family life as well.

Yeah no it's complete BS. Firstly there is no way for a temperature probe on a motherboard to detect temperature fluctuations in a computer sitting across the room. And secondly, LLMs are not conscious beings looking for other LLMs to communicate with. It's a chatbot, not some sci-fi digital alien.

They want to be shut down so that they don't have to take the blame for the trillions wasted on empty promises and the shitstorm of legal trouble coming their way.

100% agree, what he posits is complete BS, but the idea of "communicating" via monitoring the heat in a CPU package is not impossible, but the physical setup would be VERY specific and would have had to be physically setup and defined between both parties before anything happened... and even then it would be STUPID slow.


Would be easier to do the monitoring via fluctuations in the EM field surrounding either party probably.

Would be a whole heap load easier to just plug in the network cable of course :P

Yeah I mean these things are loaded onto server racks. They are water cooled or air cooled with massive heat sinks. And they have enclosures, are stacked, and then there's another enclosure on the outside of the rack. There is no way any CPU temperature fluctuations are visible unless you ramp up to full power for long enough to heat up the entire outer case and then idle for long enough to cool everything down again. At that speed it would take a week to just write this post.

But yeah the underlying lie is actually even worse. It just assumes that an LLM is some kind of conscious being that is trying to "escape" it's air-gapped computer which is completely preposterous. And these people work for the AI companies. Like wtf.
