Yes, because it erodes value. Having to pay to watch ads is an anti-consumer crime. Ads also have a wide scope. I am not against relevant product placement. Ads are already annoying; being nagging and disruptive is bad practice. I haven't received an ad that is tailored to my needs in a long time. Either the algorithms don't understand my patterns at all, or the services are milking the advertisers, though I would say both.
The more we move into cloud-based services, where subscriptions will have a threshold, as in something like OOB, the more we will have to look at a billboard at every glance. It is crazy.
For someone who uses a service like Adsense among various others. The push to plaster your content with ad space is insane, but you can't do without it; otherwise you risk running, whatever, at a loss. This is the sad part. You have to advertise more FOR less. It is expensive per head to host content and to make it available and accessible.
Building a paid subscription base is hard work; monetizing those users is abusive.
Digitisation was supposed to bring down costs... Now with the AI age, not so much. Far too many ripples.
