Reviving this thread. I had the trails done, and was successful, and now need to get a auto CPAP machine. I am on Classic Saver with Discovery, and my savings are depleted. Any change that they will approve and pay for it?

Also, is it really worth it to get the Rolls Royce, AKA Resmed or phillips, or will the cheapies do the same?

Don't think Hospital Plan will cover the cost of the device. Personally for something I'm going to let pump air into me for 8 hrs a night I wanted the one that had the most users so went with the Resmed 10 rather than 11. I'll take a cheap pair of slippers but feel like with a CPAP you want something reputable / well tested.

If you have gap cover, as long as medical aid covers R1, the gap cover will cover the rest.

You have better chance of getting a handy in the parking lot from the CEO of Discovery, than them actually paying for it......

I have the yuwell 680B, great machine, but their 550 model is apparently also great, just not the same online functions.

Forgot I even created this thread... Figured I owe you guys an update.

I managed to find a CPAP machine on Facebook Marketplace (yes, secondhand, I know). Took a chance searching for it one day and there it was, only a few km away from me. Was listed for like 16 weeks at that point.

The machine was basically brand new. When I checked it out before purchasing, it had only about eight hours of runtime. The previous owner received it (brand new) as a gift from a family member who'd noticed their sleep apnea and snoring... they tried it a few times and didn't enjoy it.

It's a ResMed AirSense 11 AutoSet (the slightly more premium model in the AirSense line), and it came with a full accessory set (climate tubing, humidity water tank, etc.). I bought my own mask, obvs.

And yeah, it pretty much completely cured my snoring. In terms of sleep quality, I do feel when I use the CPAP, I wake up fresher and more alert. No more struggling to wake up in the mornings. It's not an absolutely massive difference to how I was before, but then again, I don't think I had actual severe sleep apnea. My AHI at its highest was around 7/8, which is very low-end sleep apnea.

I paid cash for it, and I doubt my medical aid would've covered it anyway. This is how my snoring looked before and after. Ignore the dates, I was A/B testing in August.

I also found this this useful at the start to get my manual pressure settings dialed in. The default automatic range was far too wide and found it far more comfortable and consistent finding a fixed pressure and turning automatic off.

With a Resmed you just dump the contents of the SD card to the site but they support quote a few devices. Else there's always Oscar.

Yep, basically exactly what I did. I was taking guidance from ChatGPT w.r.t the settings but started off on 6-12... And that did the trick. I could probably further dial it in; I just haven't had the time.
