Major fibre network operator launching cheaper packages — with a catch

South Africa’s second largest fibre network operator (FNO), Openserve, is launching a more affordable entry-level fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) package for its middle-to-higher income users.

However, several Internet service providers (ISPs) have confirmed to MyBroadband that only new subscribers will be able to take up the product.

I would ditch my 50/25Mbps for a 30/30Mbps connection tomorrow.

I'd also trade my 50/25 for a 100/25.

Openserve and cheaper can't be used in the same thread, chapter or anything.

So cancel and become a "new subscriber" is what i'm reading
That is what i have been trying to do from the begining of April with no success till today. With Telkom system migration that has been going on for forever i am still sitting without a connection. I had to relocate around the corner from where i stayed due to a building emergency and was told i cannot move my current fibre connection have to cancel and apply for a new one was also not offered that 30/30 deal only a 50/25. Someone please help me get my install sorted. We are on the verge of a gangfight at home led by my granddaughter due to no connectivity.

Get a temp setup in the meantime? Such as MTN's LTE service if you have it in your area, it's month-by-month and has a free-to-use modem.

That's very good. My MTN LTE 20/20 costs R465 now.

(Got no use for more though..)

Softcap?

Its a failed attempt to server the lower middle class.
Yes, I need a +/-R300pm fibre package +/-20mbps for mother-in-law who is on pension where R650 is just a bit too much.
Why is it so difficult to just make full range of packages?

Internet is too important to too many, they know you'll make a plan.

I only recently ran into this problem being an existing customer who was forced over the years to upgrade to the 50Mbps/25Mbps package due to only having one FNO. I could not believe that my ISP would risk their reputation by advertising the 30Mbps/30Mbps package but as per OpenServe (from what I understand) only NEW installs are allowed to use it. It basically means that existing customers are being milked whilst new installs gets a cheaper option from what I understand
👀
.

This is the last message I received from support from my ISP:
Thank you for your message.

The 30Mbps fibre offer is only available for new installations with Openserve.
Unfortunately, this means that existing clients cannot downgrade to the 30Mbps package —
It’s not applicable to active services or reactivations on the same line.

Please don't hesitate to contact us for further assistance.

Regards
Is this not in contravention of the ISPA code of conduct?
In their dealings with consumers, other businesses, each other and ISPA, ISPA members must act fairly, reasonably, professionally and in good faith.
It just seems unfair, to not allow existing customers access to the fibre 30Mbps/30Mbps package.

the catch seems to have been removed this month.
It looks like one can suddenly now downgrade an already installed openserve fibre to 30/30 on the afrihost app.
I hope that is now possible and one does not need to go through a cancellation and re install ?
