Big Openserve move could reshape the South African fibre market

The Wireless Access Providers' Association (WAPA) has questioned Openserve's motives following the launch of its own Internet service provider (ISP).

The Telkom-owned fibre network operator (FNO) launched an ISP and started selling Openserve fibre Internet packages directly to consumers on 10 July 2026.

Competition commission need to get involved and slap this down ASAP.

Anybody thinking that a return to a combined wholesale/retail Telkom is a good idea hasn't lived through the nineties and naughties.

Those days were a licensed monopoly - no one could legally compete - those days are over. If this is a problem then most FNOs are a problem

Well if Vumatel created it's own ISP and competed unfairly with other ISPs on its own network then yes.

And FNOs are still localised monopolies. Very few areas do you have a choice of FNO.
