so i sometime have unusual or unorthodox ways of doing things.
it would seem a couple of friends find my guests vs visitors approach is a little less than ordinary.
typically if i have a couple of friends staying over for a couple of days, i would explain to them they are guests - not visitors.
so as guests, they need to treat my home as their own.
if they want anything to eat or drink - go off to the kitchen and forage around in the pantry, fridge etc - find what you feel like and help yourself.
come and go as you please.
if you want to use a car, just leave a note and take it.
meal times - if you are around, breakfast / dinner will be made for all - if you are not around, do your own thing when you are back.
my view on this is i am freed of the burden of being a "helicopter host", and guests have the freedom to do what they want, when they want.
visitors however get the "helicopter host" treatment.
the distinction i draw between guests and visitors, is guests are using my home to attend some event / function in the city - not coming to specifically visit me.
whereas visitors are coming specifically to spend time with me.
am i alone in this approach - surely not ?
