SA to ban cash sales of scrap metal to fight vandalism

Orrrrrr its because their insurance is cheaper when the building is secured with a fence?
It suddenly became cheaper, in 2020-2026?

How long have these chains been dominating the markets?

Spar, PnP, Checkers, Shoprite...

There were large scale riots in July of 2021. Insurers lost a lot of money.

But I'm willing to bet it has been cheaper before then as well. Example: Home insurance specifically ask you about security for a reason as it affects their risk assessment which directly affects the premium you pay.

Why would you not put up a fence if it pays for itself over time via insurance discounts AND it makes your property more valuable AND increases security?

It's almost like you don't live in ZA. We have insane crime rates in the city - one of the reasons i farked off to the middle of nowhere.

Too much effort, when they can simply increase the price of essential goods like fuel(and every price that depends on fuel... like food) and blame other countries' leaders.

What are the plebs going to do about it? Sweet ****-all, if they don't catch a wake-up.

Notice the fences going up around the handful of supermarket-chains, since the outbreak of Convid? They are preparing for what's coming.

p.s. Small-time crime, when increasing, is a boon to those at the top of the political-crony-hierrchy.... it feeds into the perceived need for greater State intervention into the economy aka central-planning, and the surveillance state.
That's nice.

Meanwhile, copper theft is a problem, a real problem. Just because something else may or may not be true, does not mean copper theft is not a real African problem and should not be addressed. Or that our railways weren't destroyed equally by kak sleg authorities and criminals to end up being exported to Asia. Or that ...

They create the conditions which ostensibly confirm the need to cull the population.

The average unsuspecting, State-educated person believes the human race learned its lessons from the 20th century during which comfortably North of 250 million people suffered death-by-government.

p.s. That is in the 20th century alone, and excludes war-dead.
easily beaten into submission by smallpox.....

I love how he calls it small time crime, having no power for days on end isn't really small time issues.

Yep, my wife has started numerous sting operations at her family business, with two successful arrests and convictions for copper scrap theft. It is still a risk, so much so that they have a fenced off, security controlled area, in their factory where copper is handled.

Crime - especially persistent crime - is in large part the effect of State-intervention in the economy.

Agents of the State cannot afford to permit the eradication the lower-classes who live in relative poverty, by allowing markets to elevate them into the middle-class.

Why not?

Because it would put them out of a job.

Because Statists are by-enlarge Biological Reductionists..... they don't believe in self-improvement. So they believe that anyone with a better skill is by virtue of biology/genetics at an unfair advantage.... hence the justification for breaking the rule that says nobody should be above the law in initiating force against another.

Putting aside the propaganda.... this is the actual purpose of the State.... to allow some to escape the requirement of equality before the law, and hence prosecution for violating the right to privacy of person and property.

Didn't know load shedding kept the power off for days to weeks at a time.
It did.

For those who would have been able to afford electricity i.e. those on the margins, but who lost their jobs with smaller competitors to large chains.

The topic of insurance is a fascinating one.

You expect them to detect a unusually risky behavior.

But what happens when tey, too re offered protection by the State, from open competition?

Standards drop, is what happens.

And then they get caught with their pants down.

But this doesn't speak to my original point which is that the State creates the conditions which it needs to survive..... a perceived high crime rate but only on the part of the relatively small-time criminal.

The State is not falling over backwards to warn you against the effects of banks cornering the market, are they?.

Oooook now you're rambling. Perhaps whatever you're on, is upped or lowered.
