Geely E2 Apex, pull the trigger or am I going mad?

This feels like the future: a free EV charger (at Pretoria Country Club), and a brand new Geely E2 having grabbed the opportunity:

Well Well Well, Pretoria country club might just see me this weekend for a quick lunch.
If your battery was near flat when you plugged in, how long would it take to charge at that charging point and how much would it theoretically have cost the Charge Point provider to charge your car?

Interesting... 16k more on total finance cost compared to "traditional" financing... Not bad.

But damn, are cars going 96months these days. Phew.

I think that’s only applicable to the stepped payment plan setup.

In a way it kind of makes sense you price it along with inflation and expected increases and such.

But that brings us back to if you can’t afford it at the full fat in the first place, you really can’t afford it.

Went to look at a Q today. I really liked it. Might look into getting one when the wife's business hopefully makes some money soon.

2 weeks in and so far the chery has been a pleasure. Charges 100% of solar with the granny charger. This weekend we took the kids many different places just because... Really enjoying the car.

What's the consumption you're getting?

Cross post from the famous Why you should buy an electric car in South Africa Thread.

If you bought the EV used with say a 30% discount from new and charged from solar the running costs would plummet even further, that would be an amazing saving. Many people wfh for most of the week so could feasibly do the majority of charging off solar. The way oil prices are going EV with solar charging is going to be a game changer.

In summer it will be quite well, I intend to use my afternoon post battery topup to charge.

Todays a lowish day but on a avg sunny day, bats are full by 12 and I'm scrambling with other stuff - pool, aircons etc.

Even if it tops up at 3/4kwh for 4 hours, thats more than we use. I think a avg little run is like 1 or 2 kwh.

Does the Geely come with an app? What does the wall charger look like? Is it possible to communicate with the charger to add it to home assistant, or similar, to optimise charging together with home solar?

Maybe you could just run the wall charger through a smart switch at the time of charging, presuming it comes on automatically when it gets power and is plugged in. It might be so smart that it requires some user confirmation, so you'd be screwed either way.

Aah, future me problems. For now I'll drive my diesel ICE car and cry.

So a couple of things. Geely originally said the wait times around around a week or so. But due to the colour combination (Green with grey interior), and the model (Apex instead of Aspire), we are still waiting. Geely said it might be another month... :-(

I have a Victron solar system, and it is 100% feasible to buy the Victron EV charger, that already works in the Victron ecosystem.
However, if I don't have to spend the 8kZAR for that charger, it would be better.

The alternative solution I have, is to wire up a properly rated contactor on the input of the charger and control the contactor from the Victron system. Victron has node-red built-in (not that I've used it), so it should be possible to build some rules to control the charger. But again, if it is possible to natively communicate with the Geely charger, it might help in skipping a step or two, and saving some money.
