Home Assistant : Q&A, Tips & Tricks, Your Configs

Did you use the a Claude plugin? I need to revisit mine, so many of the entities and customizations I have are redundant, just about every dashboard has missing entities.

These days everything is so automated, I don't really use the app or front-end.

That top board looks like it already has an ESP32 WROOM on it (top center). Some close up photos would indicate whether it does, and exactly what its purpose is. It may alternatively be a Tuya module, but either way, it may be possible to make an ESPHome firmware to replace its built-in functionality.

This page (https://stemarshop.co.za/product/nemtek-connect-wifi/) shows the Espressif logo on the module, so almost guaranteed to be flashable. Step 1 is to take a backup, so you can restore it if needed. The real trick is then figuring out the pinout, and coming up with the YAML that describes it most accurately (and usefully).

The Kindle dashboard is evolving. I added some horseshoe gauges and tiled the layout to be roughly 2/3 horseshoe cards and 1/3 date/time and toggle tiles. It displays a bit weird on my desktop PC but you get the idea. The tiles are a little smaller when it renders on the Kindle:

There's a 12v trigger (can't recall exactyl), think its at the bottom somewhere, by default its setup as a "momentary switch" switch - if you have a keypad you can change it to a latching switch.

I never bothered changing mine because I don't have a keypad , so mine is just in HA as a momentary switch

EDIT: Yours looks a bit different, but I'm sure it would have the same sort of connection options.

The silver ESP32 module on the top board provides its Wi-Fi connection for the nemtek app for which there is no integration that I can find! Thanks will browse the other threads mentioned.

Some interesting insights - haven't done much with it, but asked it for recommendations based on my current configurations.

It picked up quite a few things I was already aware of, just don't get to (e.g. my geyser controller being offline since June)

I'll have to see if I can get it to create a pretty energy dashboard at some point - or redo my garden dashboard

EDIT: LOL - warning to others, don't ask it to redo a dashboard on a free account if you've already asked a few questions - it stopped halfway "to be continued"

hehe, HA with the new EV on trickle charge early this morning. Check the solar dump when I unplugged it for the school run.

Meeting with my electrician today to discuss a semi complex installation for the wall box with db, crossover bypass, smart switch metering and HA control. Gonna be fun.

The point is that you already have hardware which is capable of controlling the energiser, which can also run ESPHome. The only gap is tracing the pinout from the ESP32 to the various outputs/intputs, so you know what pins to assign to what function.

Understanding that not everyone is as comfortable poking at their expensive equipment as others, that is where I would start
:)

You might want to check out OpenEVSE, which is software to drive the charger for your EV.

The geeley charger is a "dumb" charger to my knowledge with no external integration, hence the HA and electrical but I'll check it out , thank!

On the topic of ev charges, I was disappointed to say the least, to find out that my Autel charger doesn't have an integration.

Has anyone successfully integrated an Autel MaxiCharger EV charger with Home Assistant?

Autel doesn't offer a local API, and using OCPP seems to disconnect the charger from the Autel cloud, losing app features and charging history.

Nevermind the chance of potentially bricking the charger...

Has anyone found a solution or successfully tried?

I'm kiosking this in the kitchen but it still gets ignored.

I will do a post on what I am doing with my setup at some point as a thread. Basically, separate db with earth, crossover switch allowing manual by pass between a breaker and a smart wifi breaker ( Same one I use for my geyser ) to hard isolator on the wall to the geeley wallbox. HA will monitor and control the switching of the breaker based on solar availability and battery levels. I will throttle the cars onboard to reduce the draw in line with my solar ( time is not problem for our use, so happy to leverage peak hours and not drain the system or eskom ) and the HA will control power, with switching in HA or worst case scenario manual bypass. I can always toggle the vehicle to do full 32A charge after parking it if I need a full overnight topup ( takes about 5 hours on 7kwh from empty ).

Designed it, we doing the installation and runs next Friday.

I used a Sonoff SV with ESPHome flashed on it to control my Nemtek Merlin (Here is my set-up), but if yours already has an ESP chip in there it might be worthwhile to see if you can't hack that.

Folks, has anyone used one of these esp e-ink displays as a mini wall mount dashboard? I'm thinking of getting one and just having it in a 3d printed doc on the wall. Being e-ink it should have very little battery drain although I could run a cable, want to avoid it. Primarily for display not interaction.

I've thought about the same thing a few times.

In theory they should last a few weeks on a reasonable charge at the very least.
