Eskom can address solar registration backlash — or keep dying

He thinks people trust goverment e.g Eskom

Even with attractive tariffs and seamless application I still won't register as I just do not trust them to tomorrow turn around and hit me with excessive fees.

“But here’s the thing: it is not standalone. It consists of the highest-end European inverters,
to the cheapest battery made in a backyard in Germiston. And it’s all sharing the same grid.
Yeah wonder why he has a stick up his butt. Nice lies told right there.

Multiwatt owner
And there is the reason, he is butthurt since cheaper competition is hurting his business.

Go fly a kite dude.

R690 is daylight robbery when prepaid pay nothing.
And all that ignores that you may not feed in freely, you have a limit.

AI: The 1/3 Average Usage Safety Cap: As a general baseline for grid stability, Eskom primarily approves export capacities designed to feed in no more than one-third (33%) of the property's average monthly electricity usage
It is hard to find. Intentionall imo.

Feeding back is for people with money to burn, it is not worth the time or effort to even consider it.

Indeed. I think that is a NERSA made up rule. Only 25% load allowed to export. So 25% of 80A or whatever amps. In real countries its 1:1.

Imagine feeding back 10kW at evening peak at R8/kWh for 3 hours in winter. 8 x 3 x 10 = R240 per night or R7200 for the month.

Why would I register an installation at Eskom if it is not demanded by law?
You shouldn't, and if you are paying R690 in fixed fees, you should disconnect from the grid also. Let the free market speak, vote with your wallet.

When the incentives are right, then you can return. In real countries they pay you to turn off your geyser.

Not registering, not using the grid either. Eskom has no rights in this regard, but they are more than welcome to experience their own e-tolls moment if they want. Why would you not go completely off grid if you could.

If you on eskom direct prepaid like 9 out of 10 customers are, then there is no reason to go off grid.

Haven't got that far yet, 31 months until the wife retires, then it out of municipal limits and solar and bore holes all the way.

bore holes are a hit and miss risky expensive business though. what about rain storage?
Oh, definitely going to be putting storage tanks in, plans are still a little vague, because a lot can happen in the meantime, but I would like to have at least 40 000lt stored at any given time. I currently have 2 x 10 000Lt tanks on constant cycle on the municipal line. Haven't bought land yet, but good groundwater will be a deciding factor, don't mind being connected to the water supply but definitely want to eliminate as much dependance on the state as possible.

Except for the fact that R100.00 now only gets you 29 units? It isn't going to get any better either. Everyone should be looking at getting some independence from Eskom, even if it is only solar for during the day. Eskom is making it easier to make the switch.

Its still cheaper than running a genny so if you have a free grid connection, use it when its raining. Just make sure you buy every month or else they will disconnect you.

I'm fully off-grid, got no intention of paying them another cent.
