Insurance will pay me out if something happens to it. That's the only way I intend to sell.

I'm not planning on selling my car, ever. I have the car I've always wanted and it can be fixed and modified to my heart content.

It's a Land Rover Defender 110 SVX.

Yes, for a person who likes fixing things that is the perfect car (as long as you have another car that you can actually use every day)

The type of car I like becomes unaffordable once it is out of its five-year maintenance plan and I will therefore be forced to trade it in and buy a new one when the time comes.

Will probably keep it going until it needs to go to a scrapyard. WeBuyCars seems to be a preferred option these days and mostly effortless. Private sale if there is an interestes party I trust.

I had to replace the AC compressor on my Camry last week. At R13k that is the most expensive (single) repair that I have ever done on the car! It is actually 26 years old (a Y2K model), so that it not totally unexpected for a high-wear component. The engine and drive-train are 197,000km only...

Even the most expensive repair will still be far cheaper that what a replacement vehicles cost

I spoke to someone yesterday who bought a 2010(?) Land Rover Discovery(?) for R80k. It's clean and in fairly good condition, but he is fully aware of the sort of things that can go wrong (turbo diesel?) It's just a family-runaround/2nd car. New ones are way over R1M...

Sold two vehicles to WBC recently, the offers were both good enough to not temp me to hassle with private sales, and their process made it really simple.

Will I buy from them? Probably not, it will all depend on the true condition of the vehicle if that ever becomes an option.

Yeah... I wouldn't touch a Land Rover. Those do get very expensive.

I previously got a price from We Buy Cars in writing, and then took it to the dealership I wanted to buy from, and they gave me 2k more for my car. Was a win win.

When your vehicle starts costing you more monthly to run than a installment , that's when you start looking. That can be maintanence, or a older less efficient fuel engine etc.

Last time I needed to sell a car, Weelee offered me a bit more than WBC and a lot more than any dealership would have given me on a trade-in. Completely painless.
