Rain and storm for Cpt pt 2

madness, JHB is the Sahara Desert, CPT is Borneo rainforest and I dont even want to know what DBN is like right now,

how can the weather in the same country vary so wildly is beyond me.

Many of your rhetorical questions have simple answers:
South Africa is a large country, with multiple different climate zones (and elevation), and weather influences from land deserts, humid sub-tropics, and cold maritimes, etc. Australia is the same, though on an even larger scale.

You can't understand why the weather might differ a 1000 kms away? I guess thinking isn't your forte.....

just crazy that it varies so wildly when we are in the same country with the same time zone
guess I forget how big SA actually is sometimes. it aint a tiny place like Israel that you can cross in a day.

Well, here's a clue to help:
The distance from the equator to the poles is exactly 10,000km. The rate of change of climate with latitude varies somewhat (there are many other factors), but you can extrapolate a 1000km distance is roughly equivalent to a 10C change in annual average temperature. This is particularly true in the temperate latitudes (between 30 and 60 degrees).

There was a nice gap in the weather this morning, so I was able to get out. Everything is very wet, with puddles and streams that haven't flowed for weeks. I also saw large waterfalls on the eastern slopes of Table Mt.

The SAWS reports isolated heavy rainfall during the 24 hours to 8am on Wed 21st, particularly near the mountains. Highest include Kirstenbosch 51mm, Molteno Reservoir (CBD) 43mm, Paarl 24mm, etc. Most other places received much less rain, though there will still be showers for the next 24 hours.

Raining really nicely here. Bit surprised as I thought it was all over.

and just like that tomorrow and in the next weeks its like all this rain never happened, back to being hot
here I was thinking finally the weather stabilizes at hot as it should be for this time of year.

Talk on the radio today of WC government urging municipalities to implement level one water restrictions from mid November and level 2 restrictions in more high risk areas from December. It's going to be a long Summer.

I really hate water restrictions. I mean I get it, but hate it.

With water restrictions my garden dies every year, I get billed almost double for usage etc. all this while trying our utmost best to save water.

Then you take a drive to the 'indigenous' areas in town.

While everything dies at my house and I get shafted on my municipal bill for restriction tariffs, these 'folks' in the afore mentioned areas have the time of their live with hose pipes open 24/7, kids playing under sprayers, frame pools getting filled up every other day etc. etc. All free of charge.

Maak my so jags.
