BT Games will be forced to adapt in order to survive the end of physical game discs

I have noticed that when a bt games store closes, they are usually replaced by a no name brand game store. they give off the same vibe as those cellphone paki stores.

I wonder how the replacement stores seem to survive when bt dies.

"GAME 4U" replaced BT Games Tyger Valley, and yeah - very different vibe. Went in there once but won't go back.

Not up here in JHB, we just have plenty of those dodgy tech paki stores all over, the BT games remains closed

My brother in Christ when did this happen? :(

i donno went to the shops end of last month and noticed they were not there thought was my imagination i avoid canal walk best i can.

even vodacom upstairs and the data store below wasnt there so was another store i remember

its all becoming clothing stores that side slowly.

could of been between june and august maybe?

online is where its at but i mean when i started tech guy sa i was gonna sell game consoles and games but the margins on the stuff was dumb not worth my time sadly at the time donno about now either cant imagine sitting with stock in general on that.

So i get why they logisticaly would head online only with their HO in JHB etc to operate from and surounds

but thats where we headed digital gaming and online deliveries

Trading games going to be a thing of the passed unless Sony or valve for that matter does a digital trading which i cant see how it wont work isnce steam trading cards the publisher/devs and valve get a cut anyway of those they would actually make MORE money from trading digital used games in the long run (Gaben make it happen got a lot of stuff i dont touch anymore)

except cdkeys connections for keys must of been time to get into forgot their previous name.

there was a stage i had access to distributor in dubai (till they got banned on paypal) its amazing how much some of these keys went for the issue with keys off 3rd party is that the publish sometimes runs audits and notices stolen keys and they revoke those keys and then the game on steams license (sometimes the buys that bought bulk never paid them so they get revoked later volume licences includded) goes poof gone. also why i dont support those sites anymore and go directly on steam no stolen keys even after a few years etc and no warning either.

but yes via publishers they surely could get keys to sell digitally but then again if the game at BT games diigtal cost R1199 and on the Sony etc store R1199 id rather just buy it at Sony since no savings no benifits and its direct hence pointless same with Steam vouchers pointless buying at a store and then redeeming it unless your cards being blocked on steam thats another story. (Virtual card works)

on the subject of ebucks then yes also can get vouches off fnb etc (Nedbank greenbucks although steam was removed so not a happy chappy about that one)

I mean, MMOs exist and there is no guarantee those servers will be on forever.

Then you have the subscription-based games where you are spending money on content that you will never get to own, because the minute your subscription lapses you lose access to whatever content you have paid for. There is also no guarantee that the content you purchase pay to access will stay the same, with disclaimers that their attributes can be altered or otherwise be rendered obsolete.

True hey look at battlefront 2 before the re relase and remake people had to use mods and their own Peer to peer to get that running long after it died.

at some point services have to die when in their case player count and income drops to keep the servers alive.
but yes subs off you off. all that micro transactions down the drain but you basically paid for experience.

second person i hear this from. they had some cool stuff a while back.

as a gamer i dont really go in stores to get stuff to be honest '(especially when time can be a issue) sometimes the service just doesn't justify driving to a place finding parking walking a distance and then paying for parking and driving back.

Haha, yeah they and some of the tech/phone shops are surely just money laundering fronts. Rent in some of the big places are e.g. round number 50-100k per month, so that's already a lot of carpets.

Furniture stores don't have a lot of sales themselves, but on occasion when you walk past you can at least see some people browsing and/or someone sitting down at the desk who is probably buying something.

Congrats, you've listed the exceptions. I'm not talking about MMOs or subscribtion based games, obviously.

But hey, if you're happy with something being labelled a sale but treated like a rental, who am I to argue.

It seems Game4U is increasing it's number of stores.

But they are not only selling games, but have branched out into laptops, electronics, etc.

They also online

look if btgames disapears from a area in the radius of 20km or less its beneficial for any business to step in and take those clients. just the way it is. when stores disapear on my industry i noticed a small influx of clients depends where they are of course and im happy with that.

as someone mentioned the other day adapt or die and BTgames is doing the adapting to the times rather late but never too late to turn things around at least they not closing down for good cant see them doing that anytime soon.

even if everything gone digital people still need hardware , gamers want apareals and everything else.

at some point mainly due to rentals ..shops will close down and become something else its nature. I and a friend still said in canal walk one day its just going to be clothing and entertainment hell if that. a lot of things are touch and feel before you buy anyway (TV, peripherals etc)
