Dis-Chem spent R240 million to revamp online store and app as profit tanks

You would be very surprised at how much those projects cost because of their complexity and size.

And the dev team and actual dev work is very likely a small percentage of the overall cost.
But does anyone actually check that the rubbish they have paid for works?

The website and app has been broken for ages. My local dischem phones you for repeat scripts as they realise they may lose you as a customer because the app/website is unusable...

Clearly not... can't say I've ever really used Dischems website, or their pharmacy as I have a local one that is amazing, and I'm happy to pay a smallish premium to get great service.

this is why were STILL a 3rd world Sh1thole,

should have just hired a bunch of Israelis to do it, yeah it would have reported everything to Shin Bet, but it would have worked.

this is why the rest of the world actively looks down on this country as a failed state where corruption and lawnessness thrive.

Complicated, entrenched legacy systems in decade/century old companies is not an SA specific phenomena. Any change to processes and systems has many dependencies and knock-on effects.

sure, but companies move fast, systems move faster, and while there still might be loads of legacy systems
why do SA corpo's fall so far behind everybody? and even when the project completed its so substandard and lacking in basics.

I guess the boycott has hurt them more than they expected. Throwing money at a problem and making it worse is now the cherry on the cake. Kry vir jou Saltzman, kry vir jou.

I've been struggling for months with this stupid app. I placed an order using email x, but when I tried to log in, it said my ID is tied to another account. Try log in with email y, and it says my number is linked to another account. I've tried contacting [email protected] and spoke to Thuto. I sent screenshots and video recordings. Thuto is about as useful as nipples on a breastplate.
I went in store, spent an hour there and left with a promise from their side to escalate and get back to me. it's been more than 2 weeks. I sent an email this afternoon after seeing this thread, no response

You jihadist just can't leave your political crap out of any threads can you?
You know you can report my post if you think it was off topic, right? But unfortunately for you it is bang on topic. Are their profits dropping like a lead balloon? Why are they dropping?

Dis-Chem’s profits didn’t drop due to weak sales or delusional jihadists thinking they have a big enough influence on Dis-chem's bottom line. Revenue rose by around 8% to R23 billion. The problem was that costs increased much faster than revenue.

That's either SA devs that's not good and/or over priced or SA Corpos doing this on purpose. I'm still to find the real reason. But from what I've seen, SA devs like asking premium for not a good job. Compared to USA and UK sites, we're looking very bad.
Just look at my recent interaction with the Rain site. It is a mess to navigate. Can't remove your banking details, can't cancel a subscription. Just a lot of stuff left out or not working as it should.
It is kak because everybody just codes and specs the "happy flow", eg solo customer buying a simple product on a simple subscription base, renewing forever.

Exception, errors, etc? No! We just want to do the happy flow now.
Basically only thing not involving branching and looping in code. you know? those are an anti-patterns and/or not best practice!
