Six months for an SMS to arrive!

Hey Vodacom! So I got an e-mail today that said "You have an MMS message". Only problem is, it was not an MMS, it was an SMS that a friend sent to me in April when his dad was in hospital (His dad has since died). So my question is... how did the SMS become an MMS, and why did it come...
