Simpson thought he had an all-you can eat deal for unlimited web use and "probably" downloaded 20-30 TV shows and four albums. But his £41.50 per month contract maxed out at 120 megabytes of downloads per month, enough for most users, Vodafone says. "Few customers exceed the fair usage. But it seems clear Ian has run up these charges legitimately," a spokesman told The Mirror.

The company will "try to come to some sympathetic arrangement" with Simpson. And it advises its customers to "never use a mobile as a modem".

My bold. Kind of seems at odds with local conditions where mobile is heavily advertised as fixed line replacement ...
 
People have to be careful of the fair usage policy in "all you can eat" deals. I've been in London for a few months with an 8MB broadband line in my house. After 2 months a downloading a fair amount (no more than 30 gigs a month) they told me I had breached the fair usage policy and so between 6:30 and 11:30 at night my bandwidth is throttled. So during that time I can only download at about 100kb/s which is still not that bad but is a bit irritating after they said my internet was uncapped and unlimited.

What does Ofcom have to say about the uncapped & unlimited buzzwords used there to reel customers in?
