Hi everyone.

I have a 2006 Opel Corsa B 1.4i hatch. It intermittently starts and I have to jump start the car to get it running, it runs & drives perfectly but when I switch the car off and back on it intermittently starts and when it does not start it sounds like the battery is dead. what could the problem be? battery? alternator? starter? what are some of the tests that I can run to check which part is problematic?

Thank you

How much voltage do you get on the battery with the car off, how much with the car running and how low does the voltage drop when you are cranking the car?

If it runs perfectly after starting it is unlikely to be the alternator because if it was you would still have issues supplying the the multiple components with electricity if the alternator is not working right.

So most likely battery, dodgy cables or dodgy contact on the clamps or somewhere in the wiring.

If the car starts fine with a jump start it's not the starter. More likely something to do with alternator or you need a new battery. Get your battery tested and check the alternator for corrosion, could just be a bad contact or corroded wiring.

2006 model Corsa B in South Africa is usually a Corsa Lite. which uses a different non-OBDII compliant Dupec ECU, so your basic cheap OBDII diagnostic tools with not work on it. It's a few thousand for a diagnostic tool that works on a Corsa Lite, but only a few hundred for a basic OBDII scanner.

I am looking for one, do you know of a specific model that works on a Corsa?

The R700± Opel OPCOM diagnostic cable works for scanning all systems and viewing live data on all the Corsa B, C, D but not the Corsa UTE bakkie or Corsa Lite:

Or you can use a cheap elm327 chip based OBDII scanner for 2001+ import models, but that will only scan the engine module.

For UTE and Corsa Lite you unfortunately need something that supports 'GMSA' cars like a Launch CRP123X for about R3700...
