so this error started off affecting only one or two programs, but basically it has spread to most of my programs now. Even programs that I write and test start to get this error and become impossible to execute *sigh* As a dev this is kinda ruining my ambition to learn and my pc is the only entertainment I have apart from hunting male prostitutes with a crossbow (presses autolaugh)

Looking on the net, its likely to be a virus causing this error..

The problem is my pc doesn't have access to the internet because im white trash haha

I am downloading the latest version of spybot, and HijackThis to give me a rundown as to what Im facing =( I hate anti virus's and they seem to be more of a bother than a help to a pc thats not connected to the net.

I thought it was a ram corruption at first (and I still think ram corruption is a problem and needs to be replaced when I can afford it)

Anyone have any other ideas? I have things on this pc that I can't afford to lose, and backing up to DVD is about as reliable these days as the ANC haha
They don't make em like they used to. Everything seems to trend towards disposable (I only work 45% of the fkn time) cheap trash, as opposed to (im expensive but you can count on me)

My second Question is about Ram then =) How do I test mine to verify the problem that im pretty sure exists? I already did checkdisk and defrag to make sure its not my hard drive thats a problem as it could have been bad sectors on that too, there weren't any problems I could pick up. I did get some free HP ram from a friend, because they wouldn't fit in his pc, unfortunately they don't fit in mine either. They are too small and my motherboard is probably too old.. My current ram is 512 DDR 400. Anyone know how much a new slot of the same specs would cost +-? Are they still available? Its been forever since I looked at upgrading or buying a new pc, because I just haven't been able to afford it =P

Thanks..

Download memtest86 and let it run for a couple of hours. That should tell you whether RAM is the problem or not. (memtest=iso=write CD and boot from it)

Do you have one stick of RAM or more? - If you have 2 then take one out and test it in each slot.

Also check your event viewer, it may show what program is casuing the errors etc - (Type eventvwr.msc in run)

A while ago I got intermittend error reports on my server. Never the same program. Had a lot of memory and before upgrading th os I did a memtest86 for the night.

Low and behold. The one 512MB stick had 2 defective bits. As the machine had lots of memory, it only occasionally used the defective memory area causing problems. After replacing that dimm, I never had problems again!

I can highly recommend memtest86

EDIT: memtest86 comes standard on most linux LIVE CDs. So just get hold of one, then you do not need to download.

Cool, thanks for the suggestions =)

I only have one stick of mem. But If I upgrade and I can afford it, I'll def get 2! Ram isn't all that expensive these days right?
