Hi guys. I have a 1.4tdi, it's smokes on idle(white smoke) and after I start to drive it, it goes away. I have changed two injectors, did the turbo seals. I don't know what else it could be.

are you sure it's smoke, and not steam when the engine is cold?

Yes its white smoke. Even when the car is up to temperature it still smokes

Are any of the fluids disappearing?

How much kilo's on.

Oil is black, but there might be a thin layer off [white] water on top of the oil

I had a good look at the oil. There's no layer or signs of head gasket is gone. Will the fuel pump causing it to smoke or injector timing?

I doubt it's fuel pump. White smoke points to unburned diesel vapor, stuck or leaking injector.

What mileage on the car?
Maybe the egr is dirty or clogged...

The car mileage is 250000km. It's a 2003 model. It's probably the injector. Coz I had them done recently. The car smokes only on idle and when you take it for a drive the smoke is gone and as soon as you stop, It's starts smoking. The egr I had it cleaned when I did the turbo seals. You can also smell diesel and the smoke makes my eyes burn a little. To mean it seems like raw diesel not been burned. The car has enough power. It doesn't even stall or jerk

Sounds almost like valve stem seals (smoke on idle) but then you would see oil usage...

Strange

I'm now leaning towards a leaking injector

Possible, maybe the injector is overfuelling at idle causing white smoke but probably fuelling normally when at load?

I am not familiar with VAG engines but are the diesel pumps driven by a shaft from the engine or are they electronic?

I'm not so clued up on how the fuel pump works

Me even less. I would not recommend having the injectors cleaned but rather replaced, although on the PD engines the injectors are activated by a cam rather than by a solenoid or similar device as on most common rail diesel engines so it would be tricky to get to and replace.

You say that two injectors have been replaced; is any reason why the third one wasn't also replaced? It could be this one that's messing you about...just a thought

I'm thinking this one is a common rail. But I'm not familiar with the 1.4 at all. :/

What's the first three letters of the engine number?
