Got a SEAGATE 1.5TB (ST31500341AS) HDD (at incredible connection no less) and installed and formatted in a Mede8er Multimedia Player-MED500X

When I go to System -> Info, it shows the model nr ST31500341AS, but shows HDD capacity as 1032GB? Could something have happened during the formatting or have I been been duped into buying a 1TB HDD??

Should be showing +- 1397.26 GB, maybe the player only supports up to 1TB? 1TB, will show +-931GB

It could be alot of things
Try to put it in the pc and check
Maybe the mede8er reads bytes different and only reports on what the firmware can report on.

Yeah my best guess is the device only does 1TB so as Acid0 says put it in a PC and check it.

No, update the firmware and it will display the correct size

On this note, are SSD drives 1024 megs to a GB? the 1000megs/GB of HDD has always been a bit of a PITA...

yep.

But its definitely a firmware thing,it happened to me over the weekend.

Its just reporting the disk size incorrectly. Do the firmware update.

OK will do firmware update, do I need to reformat HDD afterwards?

This is still nothing. I have a 1TB lying around at home reporting 31MB in disc manager. bargain of the century . :P

found a website or two giving me a solution to reformat the drive to the correct size ( using Seatools). just to lazy to start
