" Hong Kong Broadband Launches 1 Gbps Home Service for US$215/month

Hong Kong Broadband Network (HKBN) officially launched its 1 Gbps symmetric service for the residential market. Approximately 800,000 households, out of a total of 2.2 million households in Hong Kong, are wired to receive the service. The 1 Gbps symmetric service is priced at US$215 per month.

HKBN noted that its 1 Gbps service is up to 166x faster downstream and 1,950x faster upstream than the advertised bandwidth of the incumbent's ADSL service.

HKBN Premium bb1000 service is being offered on the same metro Ethernet infrastructure that delivers the company's Mass Market bb100 (symmetric 100 Mbps for US$34/month) and Entry Point bb10 (symmetric 10 Mbps for US$16/month) services.

..and that's in China hey.

Telkom - take your 512 and shove it.

 - someone ask Telkom about this - I mean the 1mbps could be that price - that means something 1000 times faster would be the same price

I need to lie down

Well there are no hard drives which would support that download rate, and the site you are downloading from would have to be that fast for you to achieve that speed.

Hmmmmmm... have they heard of P2P tho, cos between users it would be a bandwidth bloodbath methinks..

You wouldn't be able to use the speed but it would work well for networks and at least anything you want to download will be done in a second - imagine that! aah

The keyword is broadband. Those networks are going to carry live TV, radio and web conferencing at high res. You will be able to do full screen webcam conferences without any hicups!

I also need a private moment alone.

:(

Frick on a Stick with a Brick that's insane...

Don't worry, in 25 years, we'll have 10Mbps, with a 3 gig cap :)

I particularly like the 'entry point' 10 mbps service at U$D16/month.

It should be illegal to post these types of articles. It’s embarrassing.

Geewiz, lets try and look at the bright side ….maybe we can get their old ADSL modems and routers cheap or if we are lucky, they will probably pay us to get rid of their “junk”.

(Time for me to go and crawl under a rock and cry.)

:D ..... Maybe we could somehow educate the people @ South African Football Association and SARFU (Worldcup bid) on how the bad the telco sector is and how it is most likely to adversely impact the respective world cups ... and how the current situations are likely to discourage potential visitors ... maybe then they also would pressurise the government ....

....who knows ... worse case scenario we take it upon ourselves to educate these potential visitors on how unsuitable our communications infrastructure is ... they'll think twice before they waste their money in this country ...

Well at full speed, you could reach your Telkom 3GB cap in 24 seconds.
Actually, it is quite scary when a home user in Hong Kong can have access to more bandwidth than our entire country.

yes, lets get the World Cup guys in on the act, I mean a world cup needs world class technology and infrastructure not to mention communications, Who here is friendly with SARFU???

well if its for US$215, at the current exchange rate its +-R1300 now isnt that a simelar price we pay for a service almost 2000 times slower, and we get capped:mad:
/thinks of plan to get to hong kong:D
