As of midnight tonight 10-digit dialing will be compulsory with phoning on the Telkom network.
Please make sure that modem for internet connects and auto dialers on alarm system have been programmed with the changes.
Even if the number is a local number: eg Johannesburg, the 011 prefix must be dialed. I addition for international dialing 00 will replace 09 as the required prefix.
According to Telkom, misdialed call will be routed to an answering service, and from mid March this will be replaced by "number unavailable" tone.
Corporate companies must also check their PBX system dialing access lists and make the necessary changes.
