10 Gbps FTTH Service in Japan

I just came across this:

So-Net, a Sony subsidiary, has launched a 10 Gbps fibre service in Tokyo for 9800 yen per month (approx. R1163.45). The service has a maximum download speed of 10 Gbps and an upload speed of 2.5 Gbps. This is the same company that made headlines earlier by offering a 2 Gbps FTTH service two years ago.

Slightly pointless for a single user - most data centres in Asia still at 1G or 100M per server.
Looks like 10G has come down in price quite a bit though, 82599 chipset Intel 10Gig E cards are down to about 100$ now (650RMB or so)

I wouldn't say no to that sort of throughput though server side..

Hopefully XG-Pon rolls out in China soon, my 100M home connection in Shanghai feels inadequate in comparison.

Meanwhile back in .za. No, lets not go there... sigh.
